Diamond In The Rough
I climbed a ladder or two to find
Toys in the attic
Something sparking from a past life
Or maybe something static
But the echoes hung like rafters in the air
Till I pulled you from the corner
And picked the cobwebs from your hair
Your long blonde beautiful hair
And I didn't look further, I'd found enough
Out of the attic stepped a diamond in the rough

Your smiles, they were saved
Till you could spend them all on me
And tears, a river the color of roses
Shed like a rainstorm after an eternity
I want to dam them up
God, I want to dam them up
With the cobwebs gone, you shine like stars
A jewel tred on in the dust
Till I leaned and saw a diamond in the rough

I lived a life or two alone
With toys that didn't talk
And they suppressed my honest being
Looking pretty to disguise the locks
So the echoes answered when I sang aloud
Till out of nowhere you sang back
With music that threw me to the ground
Then pulled me up to ride away
I never knew how to define love
Till I found my diamond in the rough

(You're a diamond, yes, it's true
That's why you sparkle when you smile
There upon your horse, my Rider
I'll head into the sunset if I'm beside you
And we may never find it, yes
Or maybe like Icarus we'll crash and burn
But wherever the journey
And whatever the outcome
And anything that may come to pass
We have life and love and we have us
And we will shine like diamonds in the rough)
