Boots filled with mud
As a kid I used to go out in to the fields near my house where there were lots of muddy ditches and dare myself to cross them, enjoying filling my boots with water and mud. I rediscovered boots when I moved out to go to Uni. Filling my boots with water often involved crossing muddy areas before there was water deep enough to go over the top of my boots and I used to walk around the deep mud, but one day I just thought what the hell, and walked through the mud until it was deep enough to start filling my boots. It was fantastic!!! I tripped at one point and fell on my knees so the mud came up to my belly. It felt so good that I can't now resist mud whenever I see it! I found one patch of thin, runny, mud that is deep enough to overtop waders, although I don't go in very frequently - just if I'm feeling like I need to cool down a bit!!!
Walking in the mud can be rather exhausting, especially when your boots are full. Last time I went out in the mud, I found a patch that was knee deep, and let it slowly fill my boots. I don't usually go in any deeper than that. It is quite easy to scrape off the excess mud, but with camos it doesn't show up much no matter how dirty I get, and with other grubby work kit - builders stuff like high viz and hard hat - no one notices.
I bought a pair of waders thinking I would really enjoy them, but in fact I hardly wear them at all. A good pair of wellies does it for me every time. I suppose my favourite pair would be my Argyll safety boots. They are getting rather worn now, and I worry that when they finally fall to bits I won't be able to find another pair. Constantly filling them with mud and walking for miles in them has severely reduced their life expectancy! I must admit to preferring a boot full of mud to one full of water, but either is better than dry feet, and I love the feeling of wet camos and thick socks
There is a football pitch near my place which gets really churned up and muddy - its kind of nice to combat crawl through all the slime - it gets inside my sweatshirt and camos so when I stand up again it all pours down inside my clothes and settles around my toes in my turned-down boots.
Now I can easily get away with being dressed like a workman, wellies and all, go down the river and get myself well wet and muddy and no one takes any notice!!! Actually, that's half the problem, I wish some guy in wellies would notice and we could sit down in the mud and talk about wellies for hours! One day perhaps...
