| Love Those Rubber Boots Man !! 17 |
Youthful days I remember when I was about 20 being out with my parents in the car when we passed a building site which was glistening in soft, deep MUD! How I longed to explore it in my Wellington Boots! The following Saturday I set off on my bike, it was only half-an-hour away and I soon reached the site. The machinery was now silent and the mud beckoned. There was only one snag, the Watchman in his hut. I tried to get past the hut without being seen, but, too late! Hey, where are you going? My Wellington Boots were already half submerged in the mud. Before I could say anything he continued, If youre going to walk through that mud you want to be careful, itll be over the top of your boots! He didnt ask what I was doing there, just gave me some friendly advice. I had a wonderful time! When I had finished I was going out past his hut when he reappeared with a hose and offered it to me to clean up! Over the next few weeks I went there several times. |
Wearing Boots Today I love to wear shorts with my Wellington Boots, winter and summer, wet or dry. I like my Wellington Boots to be black, well-fitting in the foot but to have loose fitting shafts around my bare legs, as tall as possible and not turned down (sorry, I know turned-down Wellington Boots are a favourite with many of us)! Slopping along through soft mud in my Wellington Boots is still the ultimate enjoyment. Tidal mud-flats, wet summer shows, Glastonbury Festival (on a good wet year) are typical places to go. Also building sites, where big machinery has churned the ground up. These are more difficult to access these days however because of Health and Safety! |
