The Vale is a minor public school somewhere on the Wiltshire-Berkshire-Oxfordshire borders in southern England. It's a strange part of the world. Stonehenge isn't so very far away, nor is Avebury or the mysterious White Horse which gives the Vale its name. The remnants of older ways of life and death still linger on in the quiet places.
