TIMELINE

At the end of The Last Temptation I appended a timeline of the past and future history of L-world. Here is an expanded version, taking in further events from my later stories.

All dates are based on the calendar of Will’s world.

1915	Birth of James Hallicraft and Sappho.
1940	Events described in The Raid.
1942	Estimated date of birth of Asriel Belacqua and Stelmaria.
1962	Estimated date of birth of Marisa Coulter.
1972	Birth of Adèle Starminster and Lysander.
1975	Death of James Hallicraft and Sappho.
1981	Birth of Margaret Doyle and Jimmy.
1982	Birth of Arthur Shire and Sarastus.
1985	Birth of Will Parry and Kirjava and Lyra Belacqua and Pantalaimon. Disappearance of John Parry.
1989	Birth of Stan Tulliver and Cora.
1992	First signs of mental disturbance in Elaine Parry.
1997	The Change. Events described in His Dark Materials, The Reliquary, Arthur and Maggie and After the Fall. Death of Margaret Doyle and Jimmy.
1998 - 2003	Will and Lyra are at school. Lyra writes her Book of Dust.
2001	The Church attempts to steal Lyra’s alethiometer but is foiled, as described in The Adventure of the Lost Alethiometer.
2007	Lyra graduates from St Sophia's College. She takes a post-graduate arts course at Jordan. Her alethiometry skills continue to grow.
2010	Will qualifies as a doctor. He develops a side interest in exobiology, resulting in part from his meeting with the mulefa.
2011	Lyra begins her career as an artist. She leads a bohemian life in London’s Soho.
2013 - 2029	As the unifying influence of the Church fades away following the fall of the Magisterium, world tension rises. Lyra abandons her artistic career and joins the Corps, an international peace-keeping force.
2017	Arthur Shire and Adèle Starminster meet in Banbury, as described in An Ever-Rolling Stream.
2021	Birth of John Good and Jenny. Death of Elaine Parry.
2028	Will is mission doctor on the first manned flight to Mars.
2029	The Ten Months War.
2030 - 2050	Lyra joins the Corps Diplomatic Service. Her now fully developed alethiometry skills are invaluable, even though she cannot lie as diplomats are supposed to... This is the time of the Slow Revolution. With the power of the Church now completely destroyed and existing nation states weakened by war, commercial forces become dominant. The Jordan Corporation begins its rise to power.
2032	Birth of Henry Curtis.
2040	Lyra weds Duncan, Laird of Dounray. Their marriage is happy but, naturally, childless.
2045	Child of Destiny shows in kinomas around the world.
2050	Will Parry retires from medicine. Birth of Christopher Johns and Jemima.
2060	Duncan dies. Lyra withdraws from society.
2063	Jorco develops the Charge Pump. Beginnings of TDR research.
2065	Lyra becomes Head of the Bach Institute and sets up the Orphanage in Wallingford. Arthur Shire gives Lockkeeper’s Cottage to Christopher Johns as described in His Day’s Work.
2067	Death of Iorek Byrnison in Camden Zoo, London.
2068	Death of Will Parry and Kirjava. The Last Temptation of Lyra Belacqua.
2069	Lady Lyra Belacqua and Pantalaimon die in Wallingford.
2071	Death of Arthur Shire and Sarastus.
