Happy Dance

Despite the fact that he wasn’t really listening to anything General Hammond was saying, Jack felt that he was being very noble.  He had refrained from chortling, even subtly, about how the planet’s most important space ship had been stolen from the General within hours of leaving earth.  He could afford to be magnanimous.  He was happy.

Happy, happy, happy.

Hell, he would even load his desk chair into a van for the General to take home if it made the poor man feel any better.  What did he care?  He had everything a man could want.

Happy.

Jack took a peek at the man across the room that he pointedly wasn’t staring at.  He didn’t have to stare, he knew exactly where Daniel was.  He was most pointedly not on the way to the Pegasus galaxy.   He was right here on Earth, in Colorado Springs, soon to be in Jack’s house and in his bed.

Happy, happy, happy.

Daniel was standing with that strange woman, the one that ought to be on medication for her diaphragm problem.  In the moment that Jack peeked at him, Daniel peeked back.  It was amazing how much the linguist could say without even using words.  With barely a microsecond’s contact with those blue eyes, Jack had just been promised thorough ravishment in the near future.

Happy, happy dance.

Jack could tell that the man he loved was happy himself.  Glad he didn’t really have to be a galaxy away.  Yes, Daniel had wanted to go; how could he not?  It was his nature to want to explore and be in the thick of the action.  But it had been a safe thing to wish for and plead for, because he knew that Jack would never agree.  When General Hammond, whom he most generously would not hit, had pulled rank and requisitioned Jack’s linguist, that had changed.  The reality of having to be apart and possibly never seeing each other again had not gone down well with the younger man.  He had clung to Jack with every bit of his not inconsiderable strength that last night.

Happy, warm cuddly feelings toward Daniel!

When they had gone, Jack’s life had basically been hell for several days, until the message came in that the Prometheus was on its way back.

Can we say nearly fainting from happiness?

Of course he’d been worried when he heard what had happened, but Prometheus had forwarded some security footage of the incident, so he knew Daniel was all right.  In fact, Daniel had kicked some serious babe ass out there!  Way to go Danny-boy!  He couldn’t blame the woman for taking a liking to Daniel.  When given the choice of everybody on that ship, everybody in the universe, actually, who wouldn’t choose to keep Daniel Jackson around?  He could blame her for beating him up, though.  Bad, bad woman.  However, since Jack was going to get to inspect every inch of Daniel’s body and kiss every bruise better, he was willing to let it go this time.  At the end of the day, he got Daniel.  Ha!  Suck lemons, bimbo.

Happy, happy, happy.

Hammond had swooped in and stolen Daniel away so fast that Jack hadn’t had time to come up with an alternative plan.  Now, though, pre-warned, he would be able to develop a defensive strategy.  He was not going to get caught with his pants down again, as far as Daniel was concerned.  So to speak.  Next time, the General wasn’t going to find it so easy to separate a linguist from his urgent duties.  Doing Jack, to be specific.

Happy inner giggle.

Seeing Daniel move towards him across the room, Jack extricated himself from Hammond’s no doubt fascinating account of his failed (disastrous, embarrassing, tits-up, heehee) mission to meet him half way.  They stopped a discreet foot from each other, rather pointedly not touching, and looked in each other’s eyes.

With that low, sultry, private voice, Daniel asked, “Did you miss me?”

“No, not a bit.”

“Well,” Daniel conceded, “I’m glad to be home.”

“Where you belong.”

They smiled at each other.  It was easy to smile, because Jack was happy.

End.
