Imperial Tobacco Company of Canada Limited The Reason Why - The Reason Why a Golf Ball is Uneven on the Surface (circa 1925)
Card back: "At one time all golf balls were made with a quite smooth surface. It was noticed by observant golfers that a ball which had become dented by blows from the club travelled further than when quite smooth and new. Some time later, manufacturers made experiments and found that a ball with crinkled surface spun around as it passed through the air almost in the same way as a bullet leaving the screw thread of a rifle barrel, thus enabling the ball to travel further."
