Jon Spano
< ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------->
Jon Spanos absurdist tragic-comedy FAMILY COMES FIRST, Part One, premiered at Emerging Artist Theatre's Spring 2009 One-Act Festival. "Spano has a sharp wit and lampoons everything from religion to sexuality to race, and of course everybody's favorite, incest" (nytheatre.com). FAMILY COMES FIRST "is one of the most disturbingly amusing plays I've seen in a while. This John Waters meets Charles Addams play will not be for everyone, but those who like their comedy on the absurd side will have fun" (stagebuzz.com).

EIGHTH WONDER premiered at the 2008 American Globe Fifteen Minute Play Festival. NATIONAL TREASURE opened at the 2007 Samuel French Festival and was produced by Emerging Artists Theatre for their fall 2007 one-act festival. TREASURE is a "fascinating and moving play" (broadwayworld.com) and "moves exquisitely from comedy to drama" (theatre2nytimes.com). TREASURE is "an interesting study in celebrity" (oobr.com).

REAL SMILES, produced in collaboration with the 2006 Fresh Fruit Festival, is a well-written play, full of sharp-witted dialogue, deftly exploring issues of playing versus relating, loyalty versus searching, friendship versus sex, jealousy versus trust, the fear of aging and could almost be an argument for gay marriage, (nytheatre.com).

JOEY VARIATIONS was a semi-finalist at both the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Conference and Lark Play Development Center. SPARKS was a semi-finalist at the 2009 Source Festival in Washington, DC.

Mr. Spano's one-act plays have been produced by Love Creek Productions, Impact Theatre, and Theatre for the New City. Readings in New York include the full-length drama, PATRIMONY - winner of American Theatre Coops 2003 national playwriting competition - at the Neighborhood Playhouse, and SEND ME, at Circle East (formerly Circle Rep Lab). Upcoming one-acts include LABOR DAY WEEKEND and WHEN IM DORIS DAY.

New full-length works include RULE FOR EVERYTHING; DANGLE; GHOST IN THE CITY; and an adaptation of Chekhov's THE LADY WITH THE DOG. Mr. Spano is a former dancer who has performed Off-Broadway at the Public Theatre (Peggy and Jackson) and at Duo Theatre (La Belle du Monde, Studio). Mr. Spano studied acting with William Alderson and Sanford Meisner. Mr. Spano, a graduate of New York University, is a member of AFTRA, Emerging Artists Theatre, and The Dramatists Guild.
