Acoustic Treatments,  Pictures of Bass Trap Construction

Here we see the basic framework, consisting of the ends caps, the middle support, and the wire fence wrapped around the inner edge of the end caps and the middle support.  Wire fence with closer spacings would be preffered to the wide spacings shown, but this kind can be made to work OK.

Here we see the framework wrapped in the fiberglass.  Be sure to squirt some silicone rubber or Liquid Nails inbetween the roll edges and between the fiberglass roll and the endcaps, so there are no ready air leaks.  As you roll on the outer layer of the wire, be sure to tuck and push the fiberglass into place so as to not leave any gaps.

Here we see the outer wire fencing wrapped around in place.  Tighten the outer layer by cinching the free edge up tight to the beginning edge, using wire ties, piano wire, or the cut ends of the wire fencing itself.  Be sure any loose ends do not poke outward, but inward.

Here we see the outer layer of polyester batting, used to contain the fiberglass, and to provide good HF absorption.  The limp plastic sheet would get wrapped around one half of the cylinder, leaving the other vertical side free.  Then burlap or speaker grille cloth would be placed over the polyester batting and the plastic sheet on one side, covering the entire cylinder side walls.  Then a decorative endpiece could be glued into place, or the exisitng one finished in flat black paint.

These pictures graciously provided by Tom Neil.
