Because of the obvius gender differences, Melisa changes for practice and games in the girls' locker room at Charlottesville High School. She laughs when putting the pads into her football pants, "They just handed me a stack of pads and said 'You'll figure it out.'"
'Bring it on l'il squirt'
During the 2000 season, seventeen year old Melisa Davis became the first girl to play high school football in Central Virginia. Playing for Charlottesville High School, Davis was the starting place kicker for a team that managed just a 2-6 record for the season.

"I always wanted to play football," says the teen who doesn't see herself as out of the ordinary. "My brother and I used to play in the front yard. He would say,
'Bring it on l'il squirt.'"
