4.7L Performance |
The Next Generation 4.7L Chrysler V8 is a very modern motor with massive amounts
of potential. From it's overhead camshaft to it's magnesium valve covers
the possibilities are endless for making this motor go faster. Stock this
engine comes with 235 horsepower and 295 ft/lbs of torque, pretty good for a 287
cubic inch engine. However making power with this engine isn't as easy
as it would be with a typical pushrod V8. This engine relies heavily on backpressure.
There is much debate as to where and how to make power. So far most of
the knowledge about power gains goes into the top end or high-reving part of the
engine. Making stump pulling torque probably wont happen with a engine
of this size. Obviously forced induction will make tremendous amounts of
power, but making only a single modification will not make a great difference.
By installing a exhaust one is making a step in the right direction by reducing
backpressure, but to make even more power and make the exhaust more effective
the air charge needs to be increased via a more free flowinf intake.
So far these are the simplest ways to make power. But do not get me wrong,
any modification is a good modification, but choose wisely when you shop or
build your power parts. I have found that the Jet chips don't do crap on a 4.7L, so don't waste your time,
get your PCM reflashed for maximum power. |
