My name is Joel. I am attending Midwestern State University, where I received a Bachelor of Science in Geology and will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in English in May 2005.
Midwestern is located in the buckle of the "Bible Belt". This town of 100,000 is probably the most red-neck town one could ever hope to never see. Thankfully, I will be moving on in the foreseeable future to attend graduate school. I an hoping to eventually attend the University of Arizona in Tucson.
I have, however, enjoyed studying under the professors in my department at Midwestern. They have made the experience more valuable. The two faculty members are Dr. Jack Watkins and Dr. John Kocurko. But it was in Dr. Pamela Stephens' Historical Geology that this whole journey began, and I thank her for making that first class catch my attention.  Through their guidance I have become fascinated in geology and in particular the field of planetary science. Throughout my time here we have done some interesting fieldwork to supplement class work.
This is Dr. Kocurko and myself taking sample at Sikes Lake. We were doing this to show the need to rejuvenate the lake. In this picture we are standing in about 2 feet of mud and only 2 feet of water. The clothes I am wearing in the picture got thrown in the trash, due to the stench that was left on them. The GES (Geology and Environmental Science Club) also takes camping fieldtrips. The next one is scheduled to be going to the Arbuckle Mountains in Oklahoma.
