She
stood staring at the ocean
Waves caressing the shore
And asked herself again
What she was searching for
In her eyes a wistful longing
For the path she didn't choose
Don't judge her or think badly of her
You've never walked in her shoes
She brushes away her tears
Tries to leave them in the past
Tries to keep the smile in place
But these days it fades so fast
She goes on and it gets harder
Destination never clear
Her gaze lingers on the water
As though she might find answers there
She seems to be running...searching
The light fading from her eyes
They never know how much it costs her
Never know how hard she tries
Sometimes a distant memory
Takes control and sweeps her away
Back to a time years ago
Before she chose the path
She's following today
But the memory fades
To a faraway distant shore
In her eyes a lingering sadness
That she ever wanted more
In her eyes a wistful longing
For the path she didn't choose
Don't judge her or think badly of her
You've never walked in her shoes Joni
