| 6-28-06. Beginning a new series on Stencil grafiti which is widespread here in the city. There is regular old tags like "down with the gov't" or "Joanie loves Chachi", but a lot of the grafiti here is art: thoughtful and funny.
| 6-28-06. Most of these I took near my place, near the government center, on Chacabuco street.
| 6-28-06. Most of these have been painted over already. I took them about 2 weeks ago.
| 6-28-06. I suppose you could say there is a very active graffiti and anti-graffiti movements here...
| 6-28-06. Some of the art is prefabricated, like these two cartoony images. Pasted on. I like the bony fish and the Hola-Kitty. |
| 6-28-06. The great thing is that you see these images block after block, sometimes in different neighborhoods. The penguin is probably a reference to Argentina's president, of whom everyone says he looks like that pointy-beaked arctic bird.
| 6-28-06. And some art is apprently okayed by the government, like these pro-Kirchner tags.
| 6-28-06. This image, and the previous 3-4 were all taken on the same wall. Anti-gov't and pro-gov't can all get along. And look pretty, too.
| 6-28-06. This is on a different wall, close to Belgrano and Chacabuco.
| 6-28-06. This is right outside one of the police headquarters. Not even the police are safe from graffiti artists.
| 6-28-06. Ditto.
| 6-28-06. About a block from my place. Much more of the anarchist strain here, with a little Bob Marley thrown in, eh?
| 6-28-06. Ditto, minus Bob.
| 6-28-06. This is one of my favorites -- I've seen it everything. Today and Yesterday: murder, oppression, torture...
| 6-28-06. Beware the Headless Laborer.
| 6-28-06. This is not the best shot, but it says NOENTIENDO -- a joke for NINTENDO. Spanish: "I don't understand" (no meaning). I took this one thinking my buddy Terumasa Kumagai would dig it.
| 6-26-06. Our good friends Brad and Tim took off yesterday. They were the first folks we met here -- actually the first people we really talked to within hours of arriving in BsAs. We sat next to them at a nice Italian restaurant in Recoleta and happened to hear them speaking English, so Nana, being the shy, timid girl she is, asked them advice about the city. Ever since that time, Brad and Tim have always set us right on where to go, what to do in BsAs. Here we are at their final recommended restaurant -- a GREAT Mexican restaurant in Palermo called VERA CRUZ, 1819 Godoy Diez (I think).
| 6-26-06. And a shot of our buddies outside of the restaurant. We'll miss you guys!!!
| 6-26-06. Two more "rooftop" shots. These are from my street Chacabuco. Mix of modern architecture with the old.
| 6-26-06. Again, Chacabuco. Across from my Lavandero (laundromat), this one is above the restaurant EL ALEPH. We went once to that restauarant and were impressed with the decor, but it took them over 30 minutes to serve us...actually, they didn't serve us. Nana got mad and we left without paying...or eating.

| 6-25-06. Pictures from 6-8-06, Went back to ROHO, where I originally got my Blue hairdo. This is the rock'n'roller place. Notice the cool arty wallpaper. BEFORE pic (1).

| 6-25-06. Pictures from 6-8-06, Here we go. Nice and neat. Nana took the photo of me in my favorite cafe chain, Havanna, at one near ROHO. AFTER pic (1).

| 5-17-06.Can you guess at what kind of place I took this photo? Update & Answer: It is a greengrocer in my neighborhood. They are welding the delivery bicycles basket together there within the vegetable store. I love the taste of tomatoes ripened by the spark of an acetylene torch!

| 6-3-06.their political cause
| 6-3-06.I took these photos some 7-8 blocks away from the main Plaza de Mayo speech/rally area. People lined the 12-lane 9 de Julio thoroughfare waiting for their "turn" to march towards the Plaza.

| 6-3-06.At Plaza de Mayo, waiting for President Kirschner to come out of Cathedral (and his special Independence Day Mass).
| 6-3-06.Lots of folks. Nana and I are mixed in here.

| 6-3-06.Everybody loves balloons!
| 6-3-06.More Balloons..
| 6-3-06.ditto
| 6-3-06.Finally, the President appears! We were like 5 feet away from him. He really does have that squinty-eye, sharp-beaked thing that makes everyone think of him as their Penguin President. Burgess Meredith, Danny Devito, eat your heart out! |
| 6-3-06.The usual suspects...
| 6-3-06.Another rooftop I took on 5/25. I love the architecture here.
