Dear Family and Friends,
Watching the recent presidential election reminded me of
something…Daniel's letter. Daniel, if you recall, was invited to meet
President Bush a couple of months ago after writing a letter about his
dad. Unfortunately, Dan was out of state at the time and was unable to
meet with the President. A few days later, Daniel received a manila
envelope in the mail from the White House. We thought, perhaps, that the
President's office had sent Dan a photo of George Bush, but it turned out
to be a personal letter from the President. I'd like to share that with
you today.

I got such a kick out of Daniel on election day. On November 2, Daniel
was glued to the television set from 6 p.m. until midnight watching the
results pour in. I watched with him for quite a while and each time
President Bush extended his lead, Daniel would jump up from his chair and
holler, "YES!!" and high five me. After a while, I left the room to
work
on the computer. All evening long, Daniel would occasionally tear into
the room and yell, "Mom, Mom, President Bush just got 20 more points! Now
the score is 204 to 144 !(or something like that)" Later, he ran in and
grabbed some paper and a pen so he could "keep score". Frustrated
that
the election ticker results were going by too quickly for him to write
anything down, Dan then got out our digital camera so that he could take
his own screen captures to keep track of what was going on.
The kids and I stayed up until midnight watching the election. Daniel
finally started falling asleep in his dad's chair, so I sent him off to
bed. He was hugely disappointed that a winner hadn't been declared yet,
but was confident that his man would win. Thank God, President Bush won!
I don't know what Daniel would have done if "W" hadn't prevailed!
About Tim… he continues to hang in there. Two days ago, he had a
noticeable swelling beneath the left side of his jaw. The nurse and I
were discussing it and he said that he thought it was a swollen gland.
Yesterday, it was better. I have seen his jaw and the side of his face
swell before. Most of the time it is due to Tim randomly moving and
getting his head off of his pillow and resting it on the side rails of
his bed. Tim doesn't realize what he has done and doesn't move his head
away and ends up with a little bump on the side of his face. It is
possible that Tim has an infection so we are keeping an eye on him. He
has no fever and all of his vitals are normal at this time. I'll close
for now as I am off to trim Tim's hair.
Love,
Carole
