...::Some Facts On the Band::...

Paul came up with the band name matchbox twenty, and they say they didn't like it but it just stuck.

matchbox twenty originated from an Orlando-based band called, Tabitha's Secret. Rob, Brian, and Paul were all a part of this band before it split up and later formed matchbox twenty with Adam and Kyle. They were only a band for a few months before they recorded their first album.

Yourself Or Someone Like You, matchbox twenty's first album, was released in October 1996.
Mad Season by matchbox twenty, the band's second album, was released May 23, 2001
Yourself or Someone Like You debuted at #193 on the Billboard Charts.
Mad Season by matchbox twenty debuted at #3.
The extra verse added to Long Day in concert that they used to perform at the end of performances contains parts from some of the following songs:
- This Woman's Work by Kate Bush (...I know you have a little life in you yet, I know you've got a lot of strength left....)
- Gone Till November
- Fame by David Bowie
- Pressure Man by the Feelers (....Would you suffer my reality....)

They recorded Yourself or Someone Like You in and hour and a half.

The guys broke Pearl Jam's record of selling out a concert in Atlanta for February 14, 1998. Pearl Jam did it in 17 minutes and matchbox20 in FOUR minutes!

Their album was originally going to be called Watershed Diaries. Rob and Paul were in a restaurant and a girl singing said "This is for yourself or someone like you." They liked it so much they called and changed it.

Other names the guys have admitted (or at least joked about) being possible band names before finally deciding on matchbox20:
- Twill
- Big Shoe Spiders
- Larry

matchbox20 was voted "Best New Band of 1997" by Rolling Stone readers poll.

If You're Gone was written in Denver, Colorado.

Don't know if it was a joke or not, but Rob said at the Denver concert that Stop would never become a single.

- Bent was the first ever #1 single for matchbox twenty

Video Facts:

-Long Day was a parody of an old foreign film.

-Rob cut his arm while chained in the video for Push.
-Three crew members stood outside with hoses to create the effect of rain for the 3am video.
-The name of the TV station Rob 'works' at in the Real World video is called "Telequedad" which means margarita without salt.
-Push, Back 2 Good, and Bent were filmed in L.A..

-Paul came up with most of the video concepts for Real World and Bent.

-They originally wanted to use the actual Grammy in the Bent video. But the "powers that be" wouldn't go for it.

*If You're Gone is the only matchbox video so far to be in all black and white.

*Five videos have the guys playing their instruments in them, and three (Real World, Bent, and Mad Season) don't. - Can we tell I have some time on my hands? ;)

*The Mad Season video had actual matchbox twenty fans called in for it. And they played ... fans!
