On the Road . . . Safety rules

Cycle with confidence...
Share the Road...
Ride assertively...
Drivers are our safety partners. Help them keep us safe.

1. Ride in a straight line on the right. Don't weave. Ride out from the curb and parked cars about a metre. When you are predictable you get respect.

2. Look ahead. Anticipate conflict and plan how you will avoid it. Don't wait until the last second.

3. Obey the rules. Stop at red lights and stop signs. The rules are tools. Use them.

4. Communicate. Be visible. Use lights and signal. Prepare for a turn early.

5. Check behind you before changing your position in the road. It can be a lifesaver.

6. Don't get squeezed by right turning vehicles. Avoid the blind spot: stay back or pass on the left.

7. Maintain your bike.

8. Wear a helmet. Wear it properly. Just one crash can really mess with your brain.
