GOAD GENEALOGY

My interest in genealogy began in 1975-1976 when I was a 6th grade student at Hillsville Intermediate school in Hillsville, Virginia. John Perry Alderman, Senior visited our class one day and spoke on genealogy. He stood at the chalkboard and drew a descendant chart on the Goad line. When he wrote the name "Peter Goad" I recognized my great-great-grandpa's name and my interest in genealogy was sparked.

About 10 years later I attended a Dalton-Quesenberry Reunion in Carroll County. A lady from Connecticut--Nancy B. Samuelson, Lt. Col. USAF, Retired, spoke on the Dalton family and the infamous Dalton Gang. She had printed information and ancestry charts and once again my interest in genealogy was piqued.

My maternal grandmother, Rodoska Dalton Baker, passed away in 1998. At her funeral I met several relatives I didn't know and I realized that I needed to get serious about my family roots. I began sorting through the information I had collected over the years. My next step was to use the internet to further my search. I have found a lot of interesting and helpful information on the internet some of which has proven to be valid while other information has been less factual. A few years ago I met Janet Goad Hill from Galax, Virginia--she is a whiz when it comes to genealogy! She was gracious enough to share the genealogy data she had collected.

My goal is to share with others the information I've gathered for the preservation of our common ancestry. My wish is to provide accurate information. My roots begin in Carroll County, Virginia. My parents are Willis Goad and Geneva Baker Goad. My Paternal grandparents were Dewey Goad and Daisy Alderman Goad. My maternal grandparents were Posey Baker and Rodoska Dalton Baker.
