�Main Idea�
The �Main Idea� is what the paragraph is mostly about. That means that most of the sentence in the paragraph are mostly about the same thing. The rest of the sentences are extra information, called �details�.
In reading, extra information is important. It helps the reader know more about the �Main Idea.�
It is easy to tell the �Main Idea� of a pa graph if you count to see how many sentences are about the same thing. We call this �Quantifying�
HOW TO QUANTIFY
1.Count the sentences in the paragraph that are related to that idea. (Mark them, if you need to, in the paragraph.)
2.Tally that number next to the answer choice.
3.Do the same thing with the other answer choices.
4.The choice that has the most tally marks is the main idea. (If there is a tie, make sure that you matched ideas, not just key words.)
