Speaker’s Key
Theme: A humble slave that was obedient to His Father represented the
life of Jesus.
Ideas, theories,
methods of confirmation of what already believed used by the speaker:
- Those
who say they live in God should live their lives as Christ did. 1 John 2:6 If you want to know how to live your life, look
at Jesus’ life.
- 1 Cor.
11:1 And you should follow
my example, just as I follow Christ's.
Our life call is to be like JESUS. To be His witnesses.
- We
must be FREE in the LORD!!!
- The
Cross has to be the center of the community.
- We
are called to community so that we can live our lives together.
- People
want someone who is real
and honest. People are quick on phonies.
- The
most important thing in life is OBEYING God.
- His
public life began at his baptism.
- Only
thing that will bring fulfillment is doing the will of God and finishing
his work. That will be my
FOOD. No person will be able to
fulfill my needs.
New teaching that
was learned:
- He
made himself nothing; he took the humble position of a slave and appeared
in human form. Philip. 2:7
This represents the true character
of Jesus.
- To
reflect Jesus is our ministry.
- Jesus
started is His life poor.
- Washing
feet was a cultural thing to do for guests. It was very common and normal to wash
feet. Jesus lived a normal
life. The task of washing feet was
done by the lowest of lowest slave.
Jesus gave us an example of what to do. We have been called to serve
- Jesus
is the church planter, and we are his servants and laborers.
- Relationships
and serving are how we are to represent the Father.
- Jesus
didn’t go up and up to be the high priest in the
synagogue, but went low and low as an individual who was naked on a cross
and crucified.
- God’s
purpose for John the Baptist was to prepare the way of the Lord and have
his Head on a Plate.
- Judging puts a curse on someone. No right to judge unbelievers.
- Affirmation
from the Father is very important! A Father’s blessing is very important.
- It is quite clear what we must
do: put off selfish ambition. We
must put that aside, shoulder the cross, and follow the Lord. We must ask what is selfish because we
want know it until the Father reveals it when we say not my will but your
will be done. That is what the struggle of the cross is about. The place of the cross is suffering.
- Suffering
is held up as a negative thing.
What comes out of suffering can not be compared to what comes out.
What comes out is far, far greater.
Practically apply
teaching of the week in life how:
Seek to serve others in my
daily life. Seek out how to wash others
feet. Live out the Gospel through my
life not just my words. My fulfillment
and joy is from saying yes Lord. Asking
the Father: NOT MY WILL, BUT YOUR WILL BE DONE!
Character study:
Power- authority, control, supremacy, rule, influence
Psalm 2:4
But the one who
rules in heaven laughs.
The Lord
scoffs at them.
2:4
God is all-powerful. He created the world, and knew about the empires of
the earth long before they came into being (Daniel 2:26-45). But pride and power cause nations and leaders
to rebel against God and try to break free of him. Our world has many leaders
who boast of their power, who rant and rave against God and his people, who
promise to take over and form their own empires. But God laughs because any
power they have comes from him, and he can also take it from them.
2 Chron. 14:11
Then Asa cried out to the Lord his God, "O Lord, no one but
you can help the powerless against the mighty! Help us, O Lord our God, for we
trust in you alone. It is in your name that we have come against this vast
horde. O Lord, you are our God; do not let mere men prevail against you!"
14:11 In the face of vast numbers
of enemy soldiers, Asa prayed for God’s help,
recognizing his powerlessness against such a mighty army. The secret of victory
is first to admit that I can’t win a battle on my own effort and then to trust
God to save. His power works best when I recognize my limitations (2 Cor. 12:9). It is those who think they can do it all on
their own who are in the greatest danger.
Psalm 20:6-8
Now I know that
the Lord saves his anointed king.
He will answer
him from his holy heaven
and rescue him by his great power.
[7] Some nations
boast of their armies and weapons,
but we boast in the Lord our God.
[8] Those nations
will fall down and collapse,
but we will rise up and stand firm.
20:6-8 As
long as there have been armies and weapons, nations have boasted of their
power, but such power does not last. Throughout history, empires and kingdoms
have risen to great power only to vanish in the dust. David, however, knew that
the true might of his nation was not in weaponry but in worship; not in firepower but in God’s power. Because God alone can preserve a nation or an
individual, my confidence must be in God, who gives eternal victory.
Memory Verse:
2 Cor. 3:17-18 Now, the Lord is the
Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, he gives freedom. [18] And all
of us have had that veil removed so that we can be mirrors that brightly
reflect the glory of the Lord. And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us,
we become more and more like him and reflect his glory even more.
Meditation: When the Spirit comes in my life, the
barriers of sin must be removed. This
freedom leads me to desire to let the Father work in me and through me. As I open my heart to the Lord and trust on
the great Counselor, more barriers are removed from my life. This provides the opportunity for me to choose
to become more like him and reflect His glory and not mine.
