Faith

Hebrews 11:1

What is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see.

  • Substance or assurance – hupostasis in Greek(support and confidence) determined and committed; won’t let go till you get it.

·        Refuse to let people tell you it's not going to happen. Keep Praying. Go after it. A bull dog Faith.  Never let it go bc God is faithful. It's an overflow of the divine relationship with God.

·        The Laws of Faith

Gal 5:5-6  For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness out of faith.  (6)  For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any strength, but faith working through love.

1Jo 4:7  Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God, and everyone who loves has been born of God, and knows God.

Mar 11:22-24  And answering Jesus said to them, Have faith of God.  (23)  For truly I say to you that whoever shall say to this mountain, Be moved and be cast into the sea, and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that what he said shall occur, he shall have whatever he said.  (24)  Therefore I say to you, All things, whatever you ask, praying, believe that you shall receive them, and it will be to you.

·        I must speak out my faith from my heart.

Psa 19:14  Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

·        Speak out the Word of God.  I can plant seeds that are good or bad. What I sow is what I'll reap. Everything I do brings forth seeds. I can speak words of faith. Don't speak words of death over self or others.

·        Life and death is in the power of the tongue. God created through the spoken word.  Universe - one sentence.

·        Release our Faith through words.  If don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all.

·        Watch your words.

Mar 11:24-25  Therefore I say to you, All things, whatever you ask, praying, believe that you shall receive them, and it will be to you.  (25)  And when you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive it so that also your Father in Heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

·        Give God praise before He does something.

·        Faith released by words and action.

·        Faith is love dependant. It is dependant on love and passion for God.

Mat 22:37-40  Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.  (38)  This is the first and great commandment.  (39)  And the second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.  (40)  On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.

·        Faith works by love. It can't work without faith.

Joh 14:21  He who has My commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves Me. And he who loves Me shall be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will reveal Myself to him.

·        I must confess Jesus with my mouth. To speak out truth.

4 Steps to Faith

1.      Hear the Word. Rom 10:14  How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without preaching?

2.      Believe the Word. What do I choose to believe!

3.      Speak the Word. 2Ti 1:13  Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

·         Pray that Holy Spirit comes down powerfully.

4.   Do the Word. Jam 2:26  For as the body

without the spirit is dead, so faith without

       works is dead also.

·        Must do something(action) to see faith work.

What Faith is not!

1.      Faith is not isolated spiritual force.

2.      Faith is not denial.

3.      Faith is not neglect.

4.      Faith is not imitation.

5.      Faith is not a legalistic formula.

6.      Faith is not an issue of ordering God around.

7.      Faith is not a ticket to utopia.

8.      Faith is not a panic button when in trouble.

9.      Faith doesn't  answer a problem at the moment like a magic wand.

10. Faith doesn't over ride the free will of another.

11.  Faith is not limited by general results.

12.  Faith is not absence of feeling. It does not deny the experience of feelings.

Healing

Isa 53:4-5  Surely He has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.  (5)  But He was wounded for our transgressions; He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was on Him; and with His stripes we ourselves are healed.

griefs - better translated sickness or disease

sorrows - better translated pain

wounded - bled outwardly for our outward sin

bruised - bleed inwardly for our inward sin

chastisment - correction for my punishment

peace - completeness and saftey in body

healed - figuratively to cure, cause to heal

Rom 10:8-10  But what does it say? "The Word is near you, even in your mouth and in your heart"; that is, the Word of Faith which we proclaim;  (9)  Because if you confess the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved.  (10)  For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses unto salvation.

God's Idea of Salvation includes sin, healing, and deliverance

·         saved - sozo Greek woord (means more than salvation from sin) saved, healed and delivered

Luk 7:48-50  And He said to her, Your sins are forgiven.  (49)  And those reclining with Him began to say within themselves, Who is this who even forgives sins?  (50)  And He said to the woman, Your faith has saved you, go in peace.

·         saved refers to sin

Luk 8:43-48  And a woman who had a flow of blood twelve years (who had spent all her living on physicians, and could not be healed by any)  (44)  came behind Him and touched the border of His garment. And instantly her flow of blood was staunched.  (45)  And Jesus said, Who touched Me? And all having denied, Peter and those with Him said, Master, the crowd presses and jostles You, and You say, Who touched Me?  (46)  And Jesus said, Someone has touched Me, for I know that power has gone out of Me.  (47)  And seeing that she was not hidden, the woman came trembling. And falling down before Him, she declared to Him before all the people why she had touched Him, and how she was instantly healed.  (48)  And He said to her, Daughter, be comforted. Your faith has saved you; go in peace.

·         saved refers to make well or healing

·         Healing is what salvation has done for the Body. Forgiveness of sins is what salvation had done for the Spirit.

Luk 8:35-36  And they went out to see what had been done. And they came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had departed sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid.  (36)  Also those who saw it told them how the demon-possessed one was healed.

·         healed is sozo refers to delivered

Luk 17:11-19  And as He went to Jerusalem, it happened that he went through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.  (12)  And as He entered into a certain village, ten leprous men met Him, who stood afar off.  (13)  And they lifted voice and said, Jesus, Master, pity us!  (14)  And seeing them, He said to them, Go show yourselves to the priests. And it happened, as they went, that they were cleansed.  (15)  And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back and glorified God with a loud voice.  (16)  And he fell down on his face at His feet, thanking Him. And he was a Samaritan.  (17)  And answering, Jesus said, Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?  (18)  Were none found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?  (19)  And He said to him, Rise and go; your faith has cured you.

·         cured refers to healing for leperocy

·         obediance equals blessings

·         God is glorified when people are healed.

Faith for healing comes from the Word of God.

Examples of sozo:

Mar 6:54-56  And when they had come out of the boat, at once knowing Him,  (55)  they ran all around that neighborhood, and began to carry on cots those who were sick, wherever they heard He was.  (56)  And wherever He entered, into villages or cities or country, they laid the sick in the streets and begged Him if only they might touch but the fringe of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made whole.

Jam 5:14-15  Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.  (15)  And the prayer of faith will cure the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up. And if he has committed sins, it will be forgiven him.

·         Healing must be preached as a part of  salvation.

Act 4:9-12  if we are examined today on a good work for an infirm man, by what this one has been healed,  (10)  be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, in this name does this man stand before you whole.  (11)  This is the Stone which you builders have counted worthless, and He has become the Head of the Corner.  (12)  And there is salvation in no other One; for there is no other name under Heaven given among men by which we must be saved.

·         Healed and saved here are sozo

·         Verse 12 separates all other religions.

·         Healing leads to salvation.

Rom 1:16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

1Co 1:21  For since, in the wisdom of God, the world by wisdom did not know God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save those who believe.

·         save refers to sozo

Act 14:5-10  And when there was an assault made by both the nations and the Jews, with their rulers, in order to insult and to stone them,  (6)  they were aware of it and fled to Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and to the country around them.  (7)  And there they were preaching the gospel.  (8)  And a certain man was sitting in Lystra, without strength in the feet, being lame from his mother's womb, who never had walked.  (9)  This one heard Paul speaking; and Paul, looking intently at him, and seeing that he had faith to be healed,  (10)  said with a loud voice, Stand up on your feet! And he leaped and walked.

·         healed refers to sozo

1Co 6:13-20  Meats for the belly and the belly for meats, but God shall destroy both it and them. But the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord is for the body.  (14)  And God has both raised up the Lord, and also will raise us up by His own power.  (15)  Do you not know that your bodies are the members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them the members of a harlot? Let it not be!  (16)  Or do you not know that he being joined to a harlot is one body? For He says, The two shall be one flesh.  (17)  But he being joined to the Lord is one spirit.  (18)  Flee fornication. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits fornication sins against his own body.  (19)  Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit in you, whom you have of God? And you are not your own,  (20)  for you are bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

·         Physical bodies belong to Christ. The Lord is the Savior of the body not only our Spirit.

Psa 104:29  You hide Your face, they are troubled; You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.
