  • I have to fight for passion.

Matthew 22:36-40

"Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?"

[37] Jesus replied, " 'You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' [38] This is the first and greatest commandment. [39] A second is equally important: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' [40] All the other commandments and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments."

  • Religious leaders observe 630 laws.  They wanted to test Jesus.
  • Everything that we are is laid on the foundation that we love God with all of our heart.  If we don’t do this, we have no foundation.  What ever build on this will not last and fall.
  • Must build a foundation of love God.  I must love God with everything in me.

Matthew 6:21

Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts will also be.

  • What I treasure reflects my passion.
  •  Our problem is that we aren’t passionate for God.
  • Must take care of our relationship with God.  We must treasure him.
  • “We get what we want most.”  AW Tosier

2 Chron. 15:15

All were happy about this covenant, for they had entered into it with all their hearts. Eagerly they sought after God, and they found him. And the Lord gave them rest from their enemies on every side.

·        If we search God with everything we have, we will find him.

·        I am going to do something bc the Father wants me to.  God blesses those who do God’s will.

·        When in need, start loving on Him instead of asking from Him.

·        He has already provided for my needs, I must love on Him.

·        God wants to lavishly give to us.

Psalm 42:1

As the deer pants for streams of water,

so I long for you, O God.

  • God becomes alive to us when our passion and love is for Him.

Rev. 2:4-5

But I have this complaint against you. You don't love me or each other as you did at first! [5] Look how far you have fallen from your first love! Turn back to me again and work as you did at first. If you don't, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches.

  • Church lost their passion for God. God urges us to come back.
  • Jesus talking here. Imagine Jesus saying this to me.  What would Jesus say to Me?
  • Why do I do anything? For Glory of God or Glory of JD?  God wants me to do or I want to do?  It must be done bc I love GOD!!!

Rev. 3:1

"Write this letter to the angel of the church in Sardis. This is the message from the one who has the sevenfold Spirit of God and the seven stars:

"I know all the things you do, and that you have a reputation for being alive—but you are dead.

·        Jesus says I know you are doing something. You have a name(believer), but you are dead.  Has nothing to do with what I am doing. It is all about do I have a passion and heart for the LORD and that the Lord is alive in me.

·        If serving the Lord turns into the mindset of work, then something wrong with me.

How the enemy wants to do to destroy my passion

·        Kill my passion. If he can kill my passion, then will be depressed.  He will do that by trying to change the focus on my passion.

1.      Fear will misdirect our passion. Fear of change and unknown. Fear is not of God. It is a spirit.

2.      Unbelief. Mark 6.  Jesus home town had unbelief.

3.      Tradition limits God to what has already been down.  Surrender my passion bc of tradition. People don’t like change. There is newness in God that can increase our passion for Him.

4.      Worldliness. Mark 10:21. Rich young ruler.  Eyes on worldliness and this life then on God.

5.      Self-centeredness. Mark 2:15. Eyes on Jesus and not ourselves. Can’t be inward focused, but outward toward the Father.

6.      Reputation.

7.      Stinginess.

Jesus did 5 things to keep his passion alive

  1. He prayed.  With people but most importantly by myself.  The devil will try to take away my time with God.
  2. He walked with patient people. Hung out with 12.  3 really tight with. Hang out with people who love Jesus as much as I do. Build each other’s passion up.
  3. He studied the Word of God. Minister to others out of what God is speaking to Me(out of the overflow). Ramah Word from the Lord.  The Word flowed out of Jesus when he was tempted.  Same for me. Word must come alive in me. Everyday get a Word from GOD!! Get a Word so can chew on it through the day.
  4. He was filled with the Holy Spirit. Jude 20. Pray in the Spirit so to be built up.  It is for me. Eph 5:15-19
  5. He did what God told him to do. He did the work of the Father.  That is my job is to do the work of the Father.  Everyone can win souls and make disciples.

·        God daydreams about me.

Description of David from God

Psalm 89:19-29

You once spoke in a vision to your prophet and said,

"I have given help to a warrior.

I have selected him from the common people to be king.

[20] I have found my servant David.

I have anointed him with my holy oil.

    [21] I will steady him,

and I will make him strong.

[22] His enemies will not get the best of him,

nor will the wicked overpower him.

[23] I will beat down his adversaries before him

and destroy those who hate him.

[24] My faithfulness and unfailing love will be with him,

and he will rise to power because of me.

[25] I will extend his rule from the Mediterranean Sea in the west

to the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in the east.

[26] And he will say to me, 'You are my Father,

my God, and the Rock of my salvation.'

[27] I will make him my firstborn son,

        the mightiest king on earth.

    [28] I will love him and be kind to him forever;

my covenant with him will never end.

    [29] I will preserve an heir for him;

his throne will be as endless as the days of heaven.

Acts 13:22

But God removed him from the kingship and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, 'David son of Jesse is a man after my own heart, for he will do everything I want him to.'

·       David courted God and romanced God. He won God’s heart. We can do the same.  Everything in the Word is for us to use and do.

·       David found this through patient worship of the Lord.

·       David captured God’s heart through passionate worship.

·       David was 15 when God said he would be king, but this didn’t happen until he was 37.  22 years later.

2 Samuel 6:12-23

Then King David was told, "The Lord has blessed Obed-edom's home and everything he has because of the Ark of God." So David went there and brought the Ark to the City of David with a great celebration. [13] After the men who were carrying it had gone six steps, they stopped and waited so David could sacrifice an ox and a fattened calf. [14] And David danced before the Lord with all his might, wearing a priestly tunic. [15] So David and all Israel brought up the Ark of the Lord with much shouting and blowing of trumpets.

[16] But as the Ark of the Lord entered the City of David, Michal, the daughter of Saul, looked down from her window. When she saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, she was filled with contempt for him.

[17] The Ark of the Lord was placed inside the special tent that David had prepared for it. And David sacrificed burnt offerings and peace offerings to the Lord. [18] When he had finished, David blessed the people in the name of the Lord Almighty. [19] Then he gave a gift of food to every man and woman in Israel: a loaf of bread, a cake of dates, and a cake of raisins. Then everyone went home.

[20] When David returned home to bless his family, Michal came out to meet him and said in disgust, "How glorious the king of Israel looked today! He exposed himself to the servant girls like any indecent person might do!"

[21] David retorted to Michal, "I was dancing before the Lord, who chose me above your father and his family! He appointed me as the leader of Israel, the people of the Lord. So I am willing to act like a fool in order to show my joy in the Lord. [22] Yes, and I am willing to look even more foolish than this, but I will be held in honor by the girls of whom you have spoken!" [23] So Michal, the daughter of Saul, remained childless throughout her life.

·       Every 6 steps David slaughtered oxen and sheep from Obed-edom’s house to Jerusalem.   That was extravagant worship.  Go after God with everything I’ve got.   David paid for it all. Gave people food and slaughtered the animals.

·       It was very easy to go into worship for David.

·        Must capture the heart of God in our passion towards Him.

  • The lack of passion will change your identity.
  • There is nothing undignified or shameful about worshiping the Lord with all my being.

  • If I set my heart into blessing God’s house, He will turn to bless me.

John 10:10

The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give life in all its fullness.

·        Abundant or excessive. To some that is wasteful.

·        God is first and he will order everything after that.

·        Pray that God will order my day.
