My Dell OptiPlex GXa
This website was created using a Dell Optiplex GXa.  I like this computer a lot; it has character.  I bought it off ebay for $53.  It came with a 233 Mhz processor, 96 MB of ram, a 4 GB hard drive, built in sound, video, and ethernet, and just the basic CD-ROM and floppy drives.  Since then I upgraded the processor with a 1.4 GHz Celeron using a Powerleap PL-iP3/T CPU adapter.  This adapter is available at www.powerleap.com.  Since the GXa bus speed is only 66 MHz instead of 100 MHz, the CPU only runs at 933 MHz.  I have tried swapping the GXa motherboard for a GX1 motherboard, which has a 100 MHz bus, but the computer did not boot up.  I am not sure why; if anyone has any ideas, feel free to send me an email.  Other upgrades include 384 MB RAM, a DVD+/-RW/CD-RW drive, an 80 Gb hard drive, an ATI Radeon 9200 PCI 128MB video card, and a WinTV card.  I'm using Windows 98SE as the operating system.  I had Windows XP Pro installed for a few months, but it was slow as balls.  Wiped the hard drive, and installed Windows 98se, and it runs at least twice as fast.  Microsoft put too much junk that runs in the background with Windows XP, like automatic software upgrades and stuff you dont really need.  Lastly, the monitor is a 17" ViewSonic, and the mouse is a Labtec optical.
The computer is pretty decent for the amount of money i put into it.  It plays most 2003-era graphics-heavy PC games without too many problems.  It does freeze with some games; not sure why.  Its good for what I do with it.  I dont play a lot of PC games on it; I mostly use it to surf the internet and to play music and videos.  All in all, after all the upgrades, it cost me less than $500 including the monitor, so I think it was a good deal.
