Trust Me
Episode 2: Trust Me
[Syd & Francies Apartment]

(Doorbell rings, Francie answers)

Francie: Hey, Mr. Bristow, come on in. Let me ask you a question, lets say youre hanging out at you favorite neighborhood restaurant with some friendsor whatever, you like to go there, you like the food, what color are the walls?

Jack: Umm, Im not really into interior decorating.

Francie: Ill get Syd.

(Calling to Syd in her bedroom) Syd, your dads here.

Syd: [In front of the mirror, looking at the patch of gauze over where she was shot.]  Okay, uhh, Ill be right out.

[Back to the kitchen.]

Jack: You know to the Vietnameseand the Chinese, the color white means death and bad fortune.

(Francie gives him the HUH? look)

Jack: Try red.

Francie: Really?

Syd: (Coming into the kitchen) Hi! [to Francie] Wills sentencing is at 2, Ill meet you there?

Francie: Yeah. [to Jack] Did you hear about Will? The story he made up? He was high the whole time.

Jack: Yes, I heard about it on the news. Unfortunate.

Francie: You know what I want to do to the guy that introduced Will to heroine? I wanna kill him, with my hands, I just wanna kill him.

Jack: [Looks sick] I can imagine.

Francie: [to Syd] Ill see ya at the courthouse. [to Jack] And Im gonna go buy some red paint.

[Francie leaves]

Jack: Id thought youd wanna know that your mothers transfer is complete. Shes being held at a joint taskforce facility downtown.

Syd: The idea that the CIA is willing to work with Irina Derevko is insane.

Jack: Worse, its nave.  Your mother didnt just conveniently turn herself in, this is all part of a manipulation.

Syd: Well shes their problem now, shes not yoursshes not mine.

[Syd puts on her jacket but cringes when putting her arm in.]

Jack: [Noticing her difficulty] You okay?

Syd: My shoulders healing, if thats what you mean.

Jack: [Pause] Its not, actually.

Syd: Thanks for asking; Im fine [Theres a pause and Jack looks at Syd, knowing that shes not okay.] I dont support the death penalty, but I hope that she dies for all that shes shes done, I really do.

[Jack looks like he totally agrees, but theres sadness and compassion for Syd, too.  They leave.]

[Syd and Vaughn meet, flash to the SD-6 briefing]

Sloane: It is our obligation to do everything we can to get that disc. Now what youre looking at is the El Sabak Hotel in Rabat.

Jack: A Derevko operative named Mahammad Naj lives and works out of the fourth floor.

Sloane: Early last week the blackmail disc in question was taken to a vault at that location.  The operation is simple: break into the vault, retrieve the disc.

[Back to Syd/Vaughn briefing.]

[Vaughn in taskforce cell]

Vaughn: Were interested in a disc used for blackmail, we believe youre familiar with this item.

[Long pause, SpyMomski just stares at Vaughn.]

Thats an implied question, Ill make it clear for you, are you familiar with this item? [Still no answer]  I know you want to see your daughter, I can guarantee thats never gonna happen unless she knows youre cooperating.  Prove yourself, give Sydney a reason to see you.

Irina: [Faint smurk] Sydney? [Sly little grin.] Interesting.

Vaughn: [Sees his mistake] Agent Bristow is in Rabat now, seeking to recover the list. Is there anything she should know?

Irina: Next to the safe theres a fire alarm. If you want to protect her, tell her to pull it first, then open the safe.

Vaughn: Why?

Irina: Ive given you a gift, and all you get from me is one.

[Vaughn turns to leave.]

Irina: You look just like him.

Vaughn: [to guard] Through with prisoner.

[Vaughn comes into the taskforce headquarters, Kendall is waiting for Syd to go radio silent.]

Vaughn: I need to talk to talk to Agent Bristow.

Agent: Shes not radio-silent. If we try to communicate her SD-6 partner could hear us.

Vaughn: Yeah, and if we dont she might trigger the alarm.

[Marshall voice over from OpTech]

Syd: [In Rabat] Were almost there, going radio silent.

Dixon: [on radio]: Just be careful.

Vaughn: Now.

Agent: Freelancer this is boot camp, do you copy?

Syd: Go ahead boot camp.

Vaughn: Sydney, do not open the safe.

Syd: What?

Vaughn: Is there a fire alarm on the wall?

Syd: Yes

Vaughn: Okay, listen to me, its a failsafe, do not open the safe until after you pull the alarm

Syd: We had no intel of a failsafe. Whered you get this information?

Agent Kendall: Vaughn spoke with your mother. We got the intel from her. Its her disc, shes familiar with the vault, if theres a failsafe only shes gonna know.

Syd: And what if theres not? Im just supposed to pull the fire alarm?

Vaughn: Now, Sydney, I know this sounds crazy, but I think its for real.

Vaughn, she wants me dead.

If that were true agent Bristow, she would have killed you in Barcelona.

Sydney: Did you talk to my father about this?

Vaughn: Yeah, about two minutes ago on the phone when we were waiting for you to go radio-silent.

Syd: What did he say?

Vaughn: Your dad?

[Cut to Jack driving]

Jack: [Screaming into his cell] The answer is no!

Vaughn: All Im asking is that you consider it

Jack: Consider the source!

Vaughn: I dont need to be lectured on what kind of woman she is

Jack: This woman is not to be trusted!

Vaughn: Jack listen to me

Jack: Under no circumstances discuss this with my daughter.

[Cut back to Vaughn talking to Syd]

Vaughn: Respectfully Syd, I dont think your father can think clearly where your mom is concerned.

Syd: And you can?

Vaughn: Im trying. And she has nothing to gain by lying.

Kendall: Ms. Bristow I want you to pull that fire alarm.

[Syd contemplates.]

Vaughn: Sydney, Id do it.

Kendall: Agent Bristow, pull that alarm.

---------
[Exit disgusting scene where Sloane kisses Syds hand.]

[Syd and Jack in Jacks car.]

Syd: I wanted to cut off my hand.

Jack: Did he say anything else about the blackmail disc; why the Alliance wanted it?

Syd: No, Id thought youd have seen it.

Jack: No, Sloane sent the disc to Alliance headquarters in London.

Syd: Ill see if I can find out whatever was on the disc and why it was so important.

Jack: Howre you going to do that?

Syd: Ill ask Mom.

Jack: Youve agreed to see her?

Syd: Yes.

Jack: Sydney, she is the enemy.

Syd: Yes, and so is Sloane. And if the devil herself wants to help me bring him down, thats fine.

Jack: She has never been interested in helping you

Syd: She told me to pull the alarm.

Jack: Yes, and for all you know it could have made things worse.  Sydney, you're smarter than this. Your mother wants you to think that she's your ally, that she could help you get what you want. Her intel might even be accurate once... twice. The minute you start depending on her, she will gut you.

[Syd goes to the joint taskforce facility to see her mother.]

Irina: You didnt pull the alarm.

[Syd looks at the floor.]

         I wouldntve either.

Syd: We need to know who and what is on the disc.

[Irina pushes her hair behind her ear; the same thing that Dixon pointed out as Syds thing earlier in the ep Syd notices.]

Irina: Hows your shoulder

Syd: The disc.

Irina: Peter Fordson.

Syd: Who?

Irina: Peter Fordson, he has a file on the disc, hes the one SD-6 will go after first.

Syd: Why?

Irina: One step at a time

Syd: I need to know why.

Irina: No, you want to know why. Theres a difference. Go after Fordson.  Trust me.

Syd: Why should I do that?

Irina: Because Im your mother.

[Syd leaves, gets out of Irinas sight, and breaks down.]

[Syd and Irina at the facility.]

Syd: Lets get one thing clear: you are not my mother.  My mother was Laura Bristow. Laura Bristow died in a car accident 21 years ago. You are a traitor, and a prisoner of the United States government. [Irina closes her eyes and then looks away.] Look at me! We will interact only when necessary. You will address me as Agent Bristow and you will answer only the questions I ask. There will be no personal anecdotes, no comments about my job performanceno condolences or congratulations. Do you understand me? Do you understand?

Irina: Yes, Agent Bristow.

[Syd leaves. Irina smiles.]
