The
role of “guitar player” is a potentially dangerous one. It’s an EXTREMELY commonly played instrument,
and is open for a serious amount of criticism.
Plus, guitar players almost always end up sounding like another
person. Which is
really quite sad, but to be expected, as people tend to just latch on to a
particular genre of music, and the players, in turn.
Thankfully,
my own style is starting to present itself.
Mainly because I’m forcing it to present itself.
But
hey, like any other player out there, I have my preferences when it comes to
equipment, players, and recordings, etceteras.

A list of my current equipment follows. (This is most likely going to be messed with
this summer, so don’t expect a static list.)
- Electric Guitar. While most people put the brand name
down, I can’t, because I built it myself.
It’s a guitar born of eBayonet. But, it essentially is a Fenderific Stratocasterous. Dark blood red body, black pickguard, chrome hardware, three black single coil
pickups. This guitar is actually a
surprisingly easy-playing guitar.
It sounds great, the action is good, and it’s not too heavy. Not bad for under 300 clams spent.
- Roguish Guitar Amp Head. 100 watts solid state, 12AX7 tube preamp
for the distortion circuit. Another
“deal” I managed through the site www.musiciansfriend.com.
For 130 bucks, this is a very nice
amp. However, it doesn’t have the
capability to pump like the Gibson L5 that I’ve got my eye on.
- Guitar Speaker
Cabinet. Once again, no brand,
because it was constructed by my stepdad and
I. Modeled after a Fenderific Bandmaster speaker cabinet, with two 110
watt speakers in it. I will
eventually trade them up for Celestionolis.
- Currently also using an
Alesisisisisisis rack effect thingy, with some
chorus, delay, and flange on it.
Not bad, but not mine.
- Various cables and
cords.
- A violin bow. I like to think I’m Jimmy Page, every
now and then.
- Any decent string will
do, really. At least, as long as it’s
not twelve dollars.
Styles are listed NOW.
- Math Rock (true math
rock)
- Jazz (I like to think I
can play jazz, anyway)
You need to hear these players, in order to really appreciate
the full scope of the guitar.
- David Gilmour (The absolute king)
- Billy Corgan (He’s really weird in his melodicism)
