My Peugeot 205 1.6GTi
Well, I bought the car after looking around for some considerable time. Seemed a good car, structurally solid and sold with a good engine. Had a sunroof though, but I suppose in the summer it will be nice.
Got the car home, spent the night before its MOT (until 1pm) fixing the brakes and bolting the buckets and harnesses into it. All the brake pipes had been replaced, but had the wrong flanges on them so everytime you pressed the pedal for a sustained period of time, it seeped fluid out the joints.
Took it for its MOT and it failed on a rusty front disc, a bad anti roll car link arm, and a complete lack of rear brakes and very high emissions. This was easily fixed, a pair of new discs, handbrake cables and anti roll bar link arm, took for its retest and it sailed through.
Unfortunatly the good engine wasnt so good, it drank oil by the sump full! Drove it around for a week and decided enough was enough. So I removed the engine and stripped it down. It would seem that the bearings for the mains and big ends had self destructed and where forcing shards of metal into every part of the engine possible and the liners where so worn it was leaking oil past the rings.
So new parts on order I stripped it, cleaned it and painted it and then re-assembled it once i received everything. I had to replace the radiator as it had about a 10% effectiveness, both driveshafts and the clutch as it was slipping!
Cleaned and painted the engine bay, fitted an extinguisher system, then refitted my engine.
This seemed ok, but I wanted the car lowered and stiffer, so an AVO Sport Evolution kit was ordered and fitted, what an improvement. Then I felt the upper torsion strength of the engine bay was weak, so I constructed an adjustable strut brace, fitted it and tightened it up, much stronger car resulting in no understeer or creaking!
I however have to mention that during all this I had the knowledge and financial support of my father (who I am slowly paying back) and emotional support from my wonderful girlfriend Sian who never complained about me spending so much time and money on the car.
