What Would Jack Do?

by Jonathan Tan

Don't tell me that this stuff ain't real
I won't listen to a word you say
Yeah I ain't the world's most smartest man
But Jack's proof that it don't matter anyway

On my tv, we'll explore new worlds
A real American hero,
But he just can't seem to get the girl

Don't look at me like it's so funny
When I talk about science and history
Whoever said that you can't learn
Anything from watching tv?

When I need
Some good advice
Don't need to worry
I just close my eyes
And ask myself

What would Jack do?
What would Jack do?
Would he use force or finesse
To fight his way out of this mess?
What would Jack do?
What would Jack do?

Don't expect you to cut me no slack
Just 'cos my name ain't Jack
When I need some inspiration
Just turn on that television

He's not the best
As a physicist
But as we all say,
Jack's a legend in every way!

What would Jack do?
What would Jack do?
Will he put his skills to the test
Or let his sidekicks handle the rest?
What would Jack do?
What would Jack do?

Many people have surprisingly been able to guess the meaning of this song! The character "Jack" in this case is Jack O'Neill from the Stargate SG-1 television show - played Richard Dean Anderson. The song is about someone (obviously a fan of the show!) who idolises Jack, even trying to think like Jack to solve problems.

In terms of music, this song was much inspired by Boz Scagg's "Lido Shuffle" and Steely Dan's "Reelin' in the Years". I really should record an electric version of this song with drums. Someday.
