Barefoot in the Park

by Jonathan Tan

Chorus:
Barefoot in the park sometimes
I know what I want from life
Barefoot in the park sometimes
I know what is wrong and right

Isn't it strange
that the world is the same place as yesterday
and isn't it strange
that the world on these 14 years rests its fate

I don't know what I can do
to make all your dreams come true
Still here I'll find my answer

(Chorus)

The smell of the trees
makes the world seem distant and all at peace
I sit here and wait
like tears, the dewdrops I contemplate

Do they know what you cry for?
A lonely child or is it something more?
Still here I understand that

(Chorus)

Though I know it's getting late
I could live my life beneath this moonlit slate
where tomorrow comes in but a dream

(Chorus)

A light swing jazz piece with a lovely shuffle feel. The song is inspired by an instrumental song on the soundtrack to a TV series called 'Neon Genesis Evangalion'.

It's about finding hope, which fits in nicely with the theme of the TV show, I guess...

Written from one of the character's point of view - Misato, who takes care of the children. Misato uses the children to pilot the Gears which is necessary to save humanity. But doing so affects her conscience. One of the messages of the song is that complexities and differences in perspectives often blur the lines of morality and ethics. But despite this, we should never lose sight of right from wrong.

First time I've ever used a jazz guitar to duet with a violin in an instrumental. I think these two instruments go very well with each other.
