A native of Chicago, Illinois, the young American Baritone,
Jonathan Robert Lasch is enjoying a diverse performing schedule
as an up and coming artist.
In the 2005-2006 season, Jonathan sang with the Portland Opera
(Oregon, USA) in their inaugural Studio program where he sang
Tarquinius in The Rape of Lucretia by Benjamin Britten. A
critic from the Oregonian proclaimed him, "a splendid
Tarquinius. Robust of voice, direct in action. We felt his raw
lust".
Another critic from The Willimatte Week wrote,
"Tarquinius, sung expertly by Jonathan Lasch, even when he puts a
knife at her throat". He sang as a Chautauqua (New York, USA) Studio
Artist, where he did a recital and Uncle Yakuside in Madame Butterfly.
In the Spring of 2005 Mr. Lasch was a Young Artist with the
Connecticut Opera, where he sang Sam in Trouble in Tahiti. He
received his Bachelor and Master of Music from The Hartt School
of Music in Hartford, CT (USA).
Favorite Operatic Roles performed are Junius and Tarquinius
in The Rape of Lucretia, Sid in Albert Herring, Sam in Trouble
in Tahiti, and Papageno in The Magic Flute. Also involved in
Concert/Recital repertoire, Jonathan has performed as a
soloist in The Faure and Durufle Requiems, Adam in The
Creation, The Five Mystical Songs, and Dover Beach with The
Emerson String Quartet.
He was featured as a recitalist in
Leon, and Bayona La Real, (Spain) with pianist Rebeca Manjon,
where a critic from Diario de Leon, proclaimed him, "a
very important, young baritone, with a cavernous voice".
In June 2006 Jonathan performed several successful recitals around
Spain with Rebeca Manjon, including Leon, Soria, La Bañeza
(Leon), and Peñaranda de Bracamonte (Salamanca). In the
2006-2007 he will join the Seattle Young Artist Program where he
will sing Escamillo in Peter Brooks´ Le Tragedie de Carmen
and Ford in Verdi´s Falstaff.
