Alabama Slammer II
Day 0 - The night previous was dinner at Bubba Sr's., where the Loose Cannon gave a halarious line regarding an individual who could not afford a plate in the head after brain surgery in which he stated, "it's true...you can't have people walking around with half a head." Snaggles also earned his namesake the night before where he commented on the beauty of a Snaggletooth in the hotel lobby, who looked at closer range like she had been viciously attacked with an ugly stick. Day 1 - Legislator: Both Slim and Bubba gave the course pretty good ratings, and the greens were in good shape. Although I didn't get reviews from Sniper and Snaggles, I know that it was one of Snaggles favorites. Some great shots were Bubba's chip on #1 to save par, Slim's 20-ffot putt to save par a win a mess of bets, and Snaggles 2nd shot on 16 and 18 to within 10 feet...failed to make birdie on both holes. A funny incident on the course was slim hitting a shot over the green on one hole, then throwing about 20 mudcaked balls from the swamp below onto the green (he triple bogeyed the hole). Day 1 - Senator: We had the same ranger stare us down on the first hole like the past Alabama Slammer. He never was a friendly type. some great shots were Snaggles 330 yard drive on #12 and his insane attempt at a green from 256 yards into the wind to a plateau green surrounded by junk. Some funny events were Bennett's 18th hole, continually going left in the hay grass, which made his allergies go crazy. That night we ate at Mrs' Bubba's house where there were references of Louis sitting in the Chinese egg jar in her backyard and Snaggles trying to choose a after dinner liquor. The Snaggle reference continued to rear it's ugly head at dinner. Bubba and Slim rated the Senator vcery high, although it played easier than most courses, with Sniper shooting one over on the front, and 79 overall. Day 2 - Judge: everyone had a tough go at this course, but it was Snaggle's chip in for birdie from the sand that was the most talked about shot. On that same hole, Slim had a double mole for a quadruple bogey. Never lost a ball, but had a tough hole. Snaggle made us laugh with a throwing of his hat after a missed putt. Snaggle loved this course the most, while Slim and Bubba rated it about middle of the pack. The difficulty still haunts our mind. Day 2 - Cambrian: Best shot had to be Slim's hitting a ball on the fly off his putter...went about 70 yards. Snaggle chipped in for a bogey on a par three...great save. On another par three, the wind kicked up, and Snaggle struggled to make an 8. everyone loved the design of these courses, although the condition of the greens were deplorable. Day 3 - Cambrian: Snaggles drive on the beautiful par 5 was amazing. Some funny moments include the Sniper's 7 three putts (still shot a stroong score). Sniper also took a huge swing at a putt, and foul tipped it into the hole. Day 3 - Cambrian: some great shot's included Sniper's 2nd shot on #7 to three feet (missed putt) and Slim's 2-iron from 230 yards out on Loblolly #1. Lots of halarity in this round. Bubba threw a club as far as he shanked the ball. Sniper imitated Snaggle on a par three when he couldn't see the hole by saying, "Ay Kaant see it they." Bubba insulted Slim after he said," believe it or not, I'm leading Louis by one." by responding,"yeah, Louis is playing really bad." Bubba hit a 9-iron by accident on a par three instead of the 6-iron, sending it to a watery grave. Sniper had a four-putt...enough said. Snaggles's drive on the second hole destroyed the forward tee marker. On one hole, Sniper had a double mole, and Slim followed suit on the same hole with a mole of his own. Like I said, an entertaining round. Day 4 - Grand National: Sniper's chip-in on #1 to save par and Snaggles shot on second par 5 out of terrible lie iin the trap were remembered as great shots of the day. Funny moments included Snaggle having to park the minivan half a mile away from the course. Day 4 - Grand National: Everyone enjoyed this course despite the misty weather at the end. Great shots included the Sniper fading 4-iron that almost made it to one of the hardest holes on the course. He also sank a putt from the fringe for bogey after trying to reach the green with a John Daly thinking attempt (fron the woods, blocked by trees, water fronting plateau green). Snaggle also hit a gutsy approach shot on #10 from a tight lie. Slim did another toss and hit with his putter, but bent the shaft in the process, making everone die with laughter on the next green when he three putted. It was a contortion act trying to putt with that thing. Slim also made a 10 on #12 with three penalty shots and a three-putt. Snaggle won the tournament convincingly after Slim faded from the lead. Day 5 - Oxmoor: Snaggle decided to fix a divot in the green by pounding at it repeatedly with his putter. Sniper shot another amazing round of 79 with a crowd-pleasing 9 greens. Snaggles tee-ball wasn't cooperating and he tried to walk off the course. He sent Bubba into exhastion trying to find balls throughout the round (he lost about 8 balls that day and Bubba found about 8 more that shouldn't have been found) for a crowd-pleasing 105. Day 5 - Oxmoor: Loose Cannon joined us, and Sniper and Bubba, exhasted from the heat, went for Chick-Fil-A and beer in the hotel room while Cannon and Snaggles went out for Thai. Day 6 - Silver Lakes: It proved to be in the cards that Cannon would not break 90 as he continued to hit monstrous drives, and horrible second shots. Snaggles proved that he could tame the course with an 85 despite 4 three putts. Day 6 - Silver Lakes: The funniest moment was the Cannon making a double or nothing bet on the back nine that he would break 45 on the back nine (90 was already an impossible goal). He was 3-over through 6 holes. He proceeded to triple bogey the 7th hole with two water balls, and bogel the 8th hole. So, a double bogey on #9 would give him the bet. Snaggle and Sniper proceed to remind him of this on the tee box.He pulls out the three-wood (unheard of so far in prior rounds) and proceeds to duckhook it into the lake. Then he pulls out the driver and almost hits the clubhouse with his drive. The following shots hit trees, sidewalk, and more trees before he finally walked off the course with 8 strokes. It was a loose Cannon of gargantuan proportions. He didn't appreciate the rooting against him, but as everyone knew, it was all in fun. Overall remarks: Sniper played fantastic, had several three-putts and whatnot, but was great with the long irons. Snaggler probably wasn't happy with his performance overall, but his putting was impressive, and he played pretyy well overall...good enough to win the tournament. Slim and Bubba were a mess. Bubba lost his swing, and made the long courses just too difficult on 2nd shots. Slim obviously didn't have enough preparation before the tournament. Everyone agrees that the Keg would have imploded from the difficulty and necessity to think every hole through. Then again, perhaps it would have been right up his alley, but it truly wore out your mind.
Predictions: Interesting tid-bits Everyone predicted right with no snapped clubs. Everyone was pretty close with low round of 78 by the Sniper (78 or 79 predicted by all) Snaggler was a novice so his prediction of high round of 97, birdies of 18 for himself, and 64 birdies by everyone was way off. In fact, no one predicted the 109 by Bubba at the Judge or even Snaggler's 105, but the Sniper did the best predicting 9 birdies for himself (he had 7). Altogether we had 15 birdies, and the closest to that was the Sniper's guess of 27. Everyone chose Louis to shoot the low round and were correct. Bubba shot the high round as the Snaggler predicted (damn Snaggler). Sniper had the only 4-putt, everyone guessed more than this. No eagles occurred (Snaggler and Slim must have been feeling lucky with their prediction of 2). Finally...lost balls: Snaggler had 38, Sniper had 20, Bubba had 33, and Slim had 31 (with three less rounds). No one came close on this...although Slim made a pretty good prediction of two a round (18), just missing his actual number by about a dozen. Tough courses...next time we play from the Orange.
