I decided to make this page after I had to set up two iPods on one computer. Trust me, if you screw it up trying to fix the problem is Hell. NOTE: This system is only designed for people using Microsoft XP. The way I do this involves making two accounts, and whenever you don't need to update the iPod the account will be hidden. 1- Open up the Control Panel (Start>Control Panel).
- Make sure it is in classic view. If it's not, on the left there should be an option that says switch to classic view.
- Open Administrative Tools.
- Open Computer Management.
- On the left there is a panel. One of the items there should be Local Users and Groups. It's a subfolder of System Tools.
- In the middle there's a folder with Users as the title. Open it
- On the top panel click action>new user...
- For all the names just put in something along the lines of "Second iPod".
- Uncheck "User must change password at next logon." Uncheck all boxes there.
- Create the account.
- Go into your copy of iTunes, open preferences (ctrl+,). Go into advanced, and the general category in it (the general category of advanced). Uncheck "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library." This will prevent any of the songs from the second iTunes being added to yours.
- Log off your account and onto the new account.
- Install iTunes. One of the first things it will ask in the installer is whether or not to scan your computer for certain types of music. Uncheck ALL of them, or else the libraries will be mixed up.
- With it installed, put your music on.
- Log off the new account and get back on the original one.
- Re-open Administrative Tools and go back into users. If you forget how, look back at steps #4-6.
- Click on the iPod account. Open it. Click on "Account is disabled." This will make it so that as long as you start the computer you can avoid the account screen. When you want to go into the iPod account, just re-activate it, log out, do your business, and de-activate it again.
