| Our Christmas lunch in Tarawera Forest. We decorated a tree with red balloons for a total cost of 6 US$. Swedish food courtesy of Camilla Omberg, Jonas and Larsson�s mom, with our special thanks. The only other creatures who showed up for the party were pohutukawas (metrosideros excelsa, commonly called Christmas trees due to their red blossom), mamakus (cythea medullaris, black fern trees up to 20 meters tall) and piupius (blechnum discolor, crown ferns).
