Drill and Turnout

There is a great emphasis placed upon drill and turnout in the Army Cadet Force. Everyone is issued with a uniform free of charge, the only thing you have to do is look after it. This means washing it and keeping it clean when needs be and also having it ironed and neatly presented when needed.

Guards regiments have a very strong reputation for excellent drill and turnout. This is because they represent the army when it is seen in the public eye. Some cadets are badged to guards regiments, for example; The Irish Guards

The Irish Guards were created under Queen Victoria in 1900 in recognition of the bravery shown by Irish troops during the South African War of 1899-1902. The Regiment wear a Blue plume on the right hand side of their bearskin, the buttons are in fours, a Shamrock is worn as a collar badge with a Star of the Order of the Patrick on the shoulder.
