The Old Gods

Unbeknownst to the rest of Midgard, before the Gods were created, Kalis had attempted to make the Old Gods of Shee myth. Instead of thirteen Gods defining the basic elements of the world, there had been dozens for every aspect of life. Unfortunately, many of the Gods could not get used to their powers, and went insane. Unable to recondition them or destroy them, Kalis had no choice other then to build a huge prison under the surface of Midgard and keep them all there, whether sane and mad.

Thousands of years later a volcanic eruption split the prison in half, and the Old Gods escaped. Many of the sane ones felt it their duty to try and stop the mad Gods from causing havoc, and for decades the Old Gods watched over the cities where the mad ones preyed on the innocent. It was a lonely war, and many of the Old Gods were unsuited to battle because of their unusual powers.

All this changed when Taexus, the mad God of Plagues, stole the Glove of Annihilation. With it in his possession, he began to experiment with it's destrutive power. He began to abduct Norns from the street and mutilate their still-living bodies, testing the Glove's capabilities. In desperation at these mysterious killings, the rulers of Mimir, the city where most of the Old Gods hid, hired a group of misfits, mercenaries and demi-Gods to put a stop to them.

After returning the Glove to the sacred temple where it resided, the Old Gods were no longer a secret. For a long time demi-Gods had existed on Midgard, the offspring of Gods and mortals, but the Old Gods were different. Their powers were sharper, more focussed than the Gods, and they had revealed themselves just in time, for the Prophesy of Aleosh was about to come true.
