Fun For All The Family
The hulking beasts than loomed over the
tiny Kajiro snarled and growled at the Jotun, waiting for the
word to let them loose. Kajiro himself was also snarling, his
dapper smile gone and looking more angry than ever. His skin was
scarred and bleeding, and his business suit was torn and ripped.
"You think you're so superior, created from the
best DNA while we had to evolve,"
Kajiro hissed, spitting the words as if they were acid. "You
are so smug and confident in your perfect
forms that you spurn all genetic research! My life's work was
ruined! RUINED!!"
"Your life's work seems to be making killing machines,"
said Thjorska solemnly.
"You may have noticed that these creatures have much of my
DNA. Considering the obvious differences between me and my
children, aren't you curious?"
"Barely. Perhaps they have the 'conniving little shax' part
of your genome," snarled Bjors. Kajiro frowned at him.
"Droll, Jotun. But they are a genetically advanced form of
the adult stage of my species. I am the larval stage, and soon to
transgress to the adult stage."
"So you're a spoiled brat, then," rumbled Pitrak.
Kajiro sighed.
"Oh, that *hurt*, I'm sure. Now I'll have to kill you all.
Not that I wasn't going to anyway, mind you." Kajiro
flinched suddenly, a spasm that made his whole body twitch.
"Now the change is starting. I'd love to stay and watch them
tear you apart, but I must get to my maturation chamber. Children?
Kill them slowly. I might even get back in time to see the Prince
die."
As Kajiro left, the first creature moved
forward slowly, blades glinting in the moonlight. It hissed, grey
saliva dripping from sharp fangs. The one Pitrak had
incapacitated was getting up, screeching vengeance. Thjorska half-turned
to the others.
"Anybody got any ideas?"
"There's too many of them. We go down fighting," said
Bjors, charging his gun. He blasted the first created and it
staggered backwards, but continued advancing. Pitrak let loose
with his Plasma Cannon, but the scalding ball of superheated gas
barely singed the creature.
"Nothing's working! They're too powerful!"
Ship suddenly grabbed a Thermal Overloader and fired it at the
advancing creatures. Steam rose from their bodies as their
temperature increased drastically. Soon, the tarmac began to melt
under their feet.
"It's not hurting them, Ship!" Bjors yelled.
"It's not meant to!"
Suddenly one Beserker came to life. Giant hands knocked the
creatures flying in all directions, and Thjorska could see the
red paintwork. It was his.
The creatures, still burning hot, got up again, ready to attack
this new, gargantuan enemy. There was a whine as the Beserker's
weapons systems charged up, and the creatures slowed for a moment.
For Ship, hovering nearby, a moment was all she needed.
Thjorska's Beserker fired eight heat seeking missiles. The tiny
computers on board instantly home on the targets emitting the
most
heat.
Soon there was a large smoking crater in the ground, and a rain
of squishy debris. Thjorska wiped a previously-internal organ off
his
shoulder and smiled.
"I think it's time to pay Kajiro a little visit. I'm sure he'll
be real glad to lend us a comm."
