Location
The hotel is situated on the dramatic west coast of Scotland and less than an hours drive away from Glasgow International Airport or 30 minutes from Prestwick Airport. Overlooking the Isles of Arran and Ailsa Craig, Turnberry's location makes it the ideal venue for that all important conference or for a relaxing break away from the stress and strains of daily life.

Golf Courses
The Ailsa and Arran courses at Turnberry were rescued from near extinction and redesigned by golf architect Mackenzie Ross in the 1950s. Since then the hotel has hosted many amateur and professional championships, culminating in its first Open championship in 1977. Turnberry has never looked back... Watson in 1977, Greg Norman in 1986 and Nick Price in 1994, all bearing testimony to Turnberry's indelible place in golfing lore. Today the Ailsa course is regularly ranked among the top 20 courses in the world whilst the Arran, for which Donald Steel has just been commissioned to redesign, is rated by some to be the sterner challenge.

Facilities
A nine-hole course will be part of the Colin Montgomerie Links Golf Academy, which opened last year and includes large indoor and outdoor teaching areas with all the latest tuition gadgetry plus 16 covered bays, an extensive short game pitching area and Cairngorms putting green. In addition to the golf developments, Turnberry is to undergo extensive renovations and improvements, transforming it from a 132-bedroom hotel into a 221-bedroom resort. Additional resort facilities proposed for 2001 include trout fishing, falconry, shooting, archery and off-road driving. The Health Spa has added another dimension to the Turnberry experience. The Spa philosophy sits particularly well in this relaxing environment where everything has been designed to harmonise mind and body by reducing stress. The absolute pride which is taken in offering an exceptional destination for golf and r elaxation extends to Turnberry's cuisine. Turnberry's Executive Chef and his team create a blend of classic French cuisine with local specialities using the combination of local fresh produce, game, fish, lamb and beef with the highest standards of quality and presentation.

Packages
Golf is one of the world's greatest games, but for beginners, it can be a little daunting. Now Turnberry offers the novice golfer the 'Golf for Beginners' package, which is a way of learning the fundamentals while enjoying all the facilities of a famous golf hotel. For more experienced golfers, the Full Monty is a comprehensive course which draws from the exceptional experience and teaching methods of Europe's finest golfer, Colin Montgomery. From the beginning of November to the end of March 2001, green fees for hotel residents are £55 per round, rising to £95 during the peak season.
