Sardinia is a
region in which time seems to pass more slowly, and where ancient traditions and customs
still persist. Its coastline is probably Europe's most spectacular with waters teeming
with fish. Set off Sardinia's glorious Costa Smeralda with four exclusive hotels at hand
is the Pevero Golf Club. The club opened in 1972 and for years it remained a well-kept
secret that flourished into one of the world's most beautiful and luxurious resort venues.
Location
Small enough to be classified as an island but big enough to be a universe unto
itself, Sardinia lies about 120 miles west of the Italian peninsula. Costa Smeralda
Airport in Olbia is 22 miles away from the resort. The hotel is located in the Piazza of
Porto Cervo in the heart of Costa Smeralda's exclusive shopping area.
Golf
Course
The par-72 course measuring 6,701 yards has 18 fantastic holes for every golfer
to enjoy. Robert Trent Jones was called in to design the course and from every hole the
sea can be seen, offering a magnificent panoramic backdrop to a layout that is as
spectacular as it is challenging - dotted with water hazards and cavernous bunkers. This
is the venue for the PGA of Europe Golf Championship, October 17-20, 2000.
Facilities
Visitors to the resort can stay in one of Starwood Hotels and Resorts
Worldwide's 'The Luxury Collection'; the Cala di Volpe, Rommazzino and Pitrizza, and the
jewel in the crown, The Cervo Hotel and Conference Centre in the Piazza of Porto Cervo.
The Hotel Cervo has 92 rooms including two suites and four junior suites. Sixteen
additional rooms are available in the tennis clubhouse. The hotel boasts five restaurants,
five bars, room service, concierge, two outdoor and one indoor swimming pool, five
floodlit tennis courts, squash court, fitness centre, boutiques, and a beauty centre. The
hotel provides a shuttle service to a nearby private beach. The coast presents an
enchantingly splendid sea, bays and isolated inlets, grottoes, very long stretches of
white and pink sand. The conference centre accommodates up to 650 people for meetings and
up to 1,000 for banquets.
Packages
Golf packages are available through the Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide.
There are natural
ponds amid the rocks, and the underbrush is fragant with the perfume of juniper, myrtle,
and arbutus berries. Voted by Golf Magazine as one of the top 50 courses in the world,
every need of the modern player is catered for. Another remarkable achievement is the
prestigious clubhouse where the wide balconies offer the view of Cala di Volpe and Pevero
Bay as well as the golf course. As Sardinia is an island, the breeze can add some
intriguing twists to play. The Club remains exclusive to this day with a 500-strong
international membership. |
