Skibo Castle offers golfers the chance to play on the most scenic links course in Britain whilst enjoying magnificent hospitality. 'Heaven on earth' was how Andrew Carnegie described his glorious Highland Castle in 1898, which is now home to the Carnegie Club. Throughout history Skibo has held a position of prominence. Its Celtic name was 'Schytherbolle', which translates as 'fairyland' or 'place of peace'.

Location
The Estate of more than 7,000 acres is enchantingly beautiful, very private and close to Inverness, which has excellent air, rail and road links. By car Skibo is forty-five minutes north of Inverness. International flight connections can be made via Edinburgh and Glasgow to Inverness from airports worldwide. British Airways fly from London direct to Inverness several times a day. In addition, there are Easyjet flights to Inverness from Luton. Many visitors prefer the overnight rail sleeper from London to Inverness.

Golf Course
The 6,671 yard par 72 course is a faithful reconstruction by Donald Steel of Carnegie's original design in 1898. It is both challenging and rewarding, culminating in two breathtaking final holes. The 17th, with its views of Struie Hill, Skibo Castle and the estate, is a teasing, short par-four which rewards the accurate player and punishes poor shots while the 18th is a long par-five sweeping left around the bay to land surrounded by water on three sides.

Facilities
Members or guests stay at the Castle or in grand, private Lodges. The 21 sumptuous Castle bedrooms are large, individually designed and bursting with character. Unique features include original bathrooms with tiled walls and mosaic floors, enormous baths sit in the middle of carpeted floors, beds are large and comfortable - some are four posters - and all rooms are either doubles or twins. There are a host of activities available on the Estate including salmon and trout fishing, together with deer stalking, grouse, wildfowl, pheasant and other game shooting. Falconry and clay pigeon shooting are practised on the Castle moor where tuition can be arranged on an individual basis. A wide variety of other land and water sports activities are also available to suit everybody. These include riding, carriage driving, tennis, squash, badminton, walking, rowing, canoeing, sailing, wind-surfing, 4x4 driving, ballooning, bird-watching, painting, billiards, archery, croquet, pottery and photography. The Carnegie Club has all the facilities needed for relaxing and rejuvenating the body and mind from aromatherapy, reflexology, massage and facial treatments to the invigorating full size swimming pool.

Indeed the estate appears to have held some magical attraction for all its owners. Nature has certainly excelled in providing the most tranquil of settings, but as is too often the case man and nature are rarely in harmony. The chequered history of Skibo reflects the chequered history of the Highlands, and this provides much of SkiboÕs enchantment.
