As far as I can tell we aren't in the same line of Shifletts, but it is strange that Jolletts and Shifletts can't be traced to a definite country of origin.
Looks as if our forebears may have anglicized our names.

I am researching our new home on Naked Creek up Weaver Hollow. Our place was known as the G.W. Meadows place but I think was owned earlier by John Jollets and Sarah Smith. Its the place along the double bend in the creek about 1/2 mi above the Methodist C
urch in Jollets.
From reading the old deeds you have posted, I wonder if Weaver Hollow was once the place called "Bushy Hollow" and "Bushy Hole".

I have always been fascinated by my name and can remember as a child looking in phone books to see if there were anymore Jollett's. My father was Edgar Warren Jollett. He left my mother when I was very young. I had contact with him over the years but n

My great grandfather was known to the family as William Preston Boyd who was born on May 10, 1845 . We have reason to believe that he changed his name and possibly from Jollett. He served in the Confederate army and served two or three years of a five
ear sentence in prison in Richmond after the war. He married Harriet Echols in Giles County, Virginia on August 1, 1876. The marriage stated that he was from Rockingham County, Virginia. He listed his father as G. H. Boyd and his mother as E. A. Boyd.
We have reason to believe that E. A. was possibly Elizabeth Ann Breedon. You site has some interesting information which might be helpful. We have come across Fielding Jollett's name several. Do you by any chance know if Fielding had any younger bro
