Jack joined the airforce at 18 and proved to have alot of potential for a very exceptional airman. He waz soon assigned to a training program for Covert operations/Infiltration. He learnt and developed skills such as wilderness survival, assasination, the manufacture and detonation of explosives. After this training he proved to be a field expedience specialist.
He resigned from the force when his son Charlie accidentally shot himself with Jacks gun, and died. Jack never recovered from the loss and after a while it caused him and Cera to divorce. Jacks former C.O recalled him to go through the Stargate on the first mission to Abydos. The reason he was recalled on such a dangerous mission was because he had no will to live. But the mission to Abydos gave him the will to live. After the mission he resigned again only to be recalled again to work in the Stargate Command (SGC). He is still working there today...
Dr. Daniel Jackson was approach by the military to decifer a mysterious hieroglyphic artefact which had baffled their scientists. He was successful in translating the images and the Stargate was activated, on their first mission Daniel joined the team through the 'gate'. Daniel holds a PHD in Anthropology and Linguistics which proved helpful when they arrived on Abydos. It was there where he met his wife Sha're and decided not to return to Earth. Whilst on Abydos he had time to research a map room and to brush up on his ancient languages. After O'Neill returns to Abydos and Sha're is kidnapped and he decides to go back to Earth. He joins forces with SG-1 to find his wife and her brother whilst exploring other planets. His Humanistic, liberal approach is often in conflict with O'Neill's militaristic one. Some see him as soft, brainy, clumsy scientist who carries a wide-eyed enthusiasm withhim through every mission but its these exact qualities that his team mates find so appealing.
Major Samantha Carter has served in the Pentagon and undergone special training. She holds a PHD in Quantum Mechanics and is a plasma/particle physics expert which is why she is one of the leading experts on 'gate' technology. She has read every bit of information known to exsist and has studied the permutations of the 'gate'. When the SGC was assembled and became part of SG1 it allowed her to travel through the 'gate' and expand her research further. Sam is a loyal member of SG1 and regards the other members of the team as part of her family. Her military training and scientific knowledge is a valuable asset to the SGC.
Teal'c is a member of an alien race called the Jaff'a, and his home planet is Chulak. Although his overall appearance is similar to human, the Jaff'a have an 'X' shaped incision in the abdomen (known as a pouch). This is because when a Jaff'a child reaches the age 8 a Goa'uld Larva is placed in the pouch in order for it to mature. As a result of hosting, the symbiote provides a relationship between the two, which helps extend his lifespan. Although he looks about 30 Teal'c is actually over one hundred years old. Normally after the seven year gestation, the Goa'uld parasite will mature and will seek out a new host. Then the Jaff'a will get another symbiote and the process will start all over again. All Jaff'a have a mid-forehead tatoo or symbol indicating they carry a Goa'uld symbiote that belongs to a particular Goa'uld such as Apophis.Teal'c aided SG1's escape because he could no longer stand the senseless killing and slavery and wanted to help free his people from the Enslavement of the Goa'uld. He has now become a voluntary member og SG1 in the fight against the Goa'uld.
