| The Joliet Noon Lions are a group of active men and women who are proud to say " WE SERVE". Our sights and sounds committee works with the visually and hearing challenged residents of the City of Joliet. We work with them in obtaining the necessary vision and hearing screenings that they need. If the situation warrants it, we provide the funding for eye-glasses or hearing aids. We raise the money for these services through our various fundraising activites, such as the Cubs Caravan or Jammin with the Jackhammers Night We are also the Proud sponsors of the Joliet Township West Leos, one of the largest in Will County and District 1-B. Joliet, the city of Champions. We provide FREE vision screening in the Joliet area schools. Since we started this program we have screened over 5000 school aged kids for color blindness, visual acuity, depth perception and others...we then put them on "Eye-lean", our eye screening machine which tests their eyes. Our volunteers than check the results and if the tests results show it necessary we tell the students and their parents to contact their eye physician. This is all done at NO cost to taxpayers. The Joliet Noon Lions contributed money and time for the Habitat for Humanity project in Fairmont District. To see the houses all completed and occupied is magical. We encourage all local Lions to continue to participate. The Joliet NoonLions wish to thank all of those volunteers who have helped us throughout the years to make all of our fundraisers a smashing success. Without the long hours of work, without the long hours of sweat and tears, the work would not have been done and the communities needs would not have been met. In addition we want to thank all of the members of the general public who have dug deep into their pockets to help us meet the needs of those who are less fortunate than ourselves. $6 for just $6 Lions can save the sight of someone in need . The next time you see a Lion out collecting money- give em $6 and know that you just saved the sight of a person in need. We are sad to report that : THE CHICAGO CUBS CARAVAN IS NOT COMING TO JOLIET IN 2009 We thank WJOL for reporting on this story and are sad to lose this Fundraiser that been sponsored by the Joliet Noon Lions for over 20 years !! |
