Sherlock Homes and  The Sherlock Holmes Society Of London
The 'death' of Sherlock Holmes. (by Sidney Paget)  taken from the illustrations  of the 'Final Problem', the last recount in 'The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes in1893  This was to be the end of the great detective  but 10 years later in 1903 he returned seemingly from the dead (or maybe just Tibet) in the story of 'The Empty House' this signified  'The Return of Sherlock Holmes! (phew!)

OK you've probably by now deduced that i'm a bit of a 'Holmes' fan ... its elementary really given the nature of this page. I was given my first Holmes book by my mother. It came in a set of 'classics'. It was a 'simplified' version of the 'Adventures of ..'  but I devoured it quickly (along with the
Adventures of Robin Hood, Great Expectations and the Wessex Tales). At the same time as I was given this fine collection of literature a strange glowing hound was causing mayhem on ITV that Christmas morning. (it must be fate Mulder)

10 years later I introduced a friend from school to Mr. Holmes..she, like I became absolutely besotted with this marvelous character, and so together we paid our dues to British Rail and trained it in to London Liverpool St. where we then jumped on the Circle line to BAKER STREET!!. Now for any one who has been to Baker Street station you will know that it is situated half way up the street. so we both walked the wrong way down it...where we then also managed to walk past the Sherlock Holmes Hotel (some where else we had planned to visit that day). Anyway we finally did an about turn and trundled back up the road. "i say, that restaurant seems very popular for this time of day" Isaid "and look! its called Hudsons!" I said....we carried on walking. When we  reached the other end of the road...... Anyway... that queue for Hudsons was indeed the queue for the museum we had planned to visit ...we should have guessed really... there was a guy dressed in a Peelers out fit standing by the door (DOH!)

Inside this cosey little museam..a mock up of the rooms that Holmes and Watson would have shared..there was a 'gift shop'. Whilst flicking through the books we saw  a reference to one 'Sherlock Holmes Socety of London' needless to say we A) bought the book and B) joined the society!

I could go on and tell you all about the society but I won't ! instead I'll offer you a link to there own web site
