In the darkness, I sit and smile
silent and thoughtful as my eyes close so tight
I remember the way you look in the middle of the night.
Your hair as it curls, the lock in your eyes
the way your lips part as you breathe in and sigh
The rise and fall of your chest as it moves
the smell of your skin as I let my lips roam.
I remember the sound of your words, so soft in my ear
"Good morning baby", as I cuddle near.
The feel of the strength when your arms wrap around me
the comfort and safety when I lay on your chest
The steady beat, your heart pounding next to mine
The touch of your hand, my skin all ashiver
Darkness surrounds me and yet I can see
you have become the light, the only one ringing true to me.
When all else is lost, there is one thing I know is constant
The love I have found in you, the warmth that is instant
The safety of your arms, the comfort in your kiss
the strength in your eyes, oh those feelings how I miss..
And yet I hang on, my grip tight as can be
for without you, what else can there be for me?
You are my light, you are my strength
you are my joy, you take away all my pain
you are my love, you are my smiles
you are my comfort, even spanning thousands of miles.
For this you are irreplaceable, noone can compare
and even in the years from now, there would never be another there
Your place in my life is as necessary as my breaths
Surely if I lost that, the next thing would be death.
Death to my heart, death to my soul
for once you have glimpsed perfection
everything else seems soiled.
For once in my life, the heavens opened up
this is not something I would ever be willing to give up.
