PING PONG
5th Place: Chris
What in the world happened to Chris?  A former doormat of this league, Chris seemed slightly better in the beginning.  People noticed quickly that they couldnt just rack up winners.  They then started learning that Chris now hits winners.  They then started learning that Chris was beating them with huge finishes.  He lost his match to Joe, Steve, and Nick, but the one win that he grabbed against each could be huge moving forward.

Record: 5-9
Matches: 1-4 (win over Anna)
Best Win: He beat Steve 21-12, wrapping up the trifecta, and leaving no doubt that he was getting better every single game.  No one even knows where to project this kid for his next game.
Worst Loss: I dont care if it was against Jan.  21-5 is a horrible way to close the night.  It didnt have to end that way, but Chris couldnt bring himself to walk back into that fire, and left early.  I saw a hint of post-traumatic stress disorder in his eyes when I told him Jan is his next opponent.

Rating +300, 510 up to 810

6th Place: Anna
Oh Anna.  She couldnt turn down this event, even with possible torn ligaments in her paddle hand.  Anna had a rough night, rougher than I realized as we were playing.  She seemed to be close in every game, but never could close out the game.  Her rating suffered mightily in this oneId like to get her some games against Tom and/or Matt to balance things back out.

Record: 1-13
Matches: 0-5
Best Win: Her win over Chris gave her a chance to take that match, but Chris got so much better through the night, it just wasnt to be.
Worst Loss: In game four of the tournament, she lost to Joe 21-10.  She never gets blown out, and if you look at the rest of her games, it was really out of character.  She was even close to Jan, scoring 12 and 15 in those two games.

Rating: -390, 1140 down to 750

Honorable Mention: Matt
In strolls Matt at 11:40, more than a quarter of a day after the tournament started.  He played as many games as he had on shirts.  I wont poo-poo it though, because those three games brought him past the 5-game mark, which makes him an official member of the SBL (Sutton Basement League).
