Before beth took off for the Far East we spent a weekend at the beach on Georgia's Golden Isles visiting St. Simons Island, Brunswick but most of our time was spent on Jeckyll Island. Beth left the Atlanta airport early Wed morning on April 13, 2005. The alarm clock was set for 4:00AM!! (Shudder) On the way to the airport that morning beth said it felt like old times. I guess it has been too long since she has been home. I went with as far as security would allow. I have not seen her since. lol Her first stop was JFK airport in New York which included a 4-5 hour wait. Nearly 24 hours after she started her journey beth finally landed in Hong Kong where she was spending the next 4 days. Beth stayed in a very tiny room at a hotel near nathan Rd. in Kowloon. She told me over the phone from the hotel that the hardest part was trying to find something to eat when everything is written in Chinese. Her first stop was KFC. Eventually she found logan berries, chicken feet, fish balls, BBQ eel and some of her other favorites. Beth got to spend time with her sister and aunt who are living in Hong Kong. Shopping was the name of the game!! Seems they spent a lot of time out and about town. And that meant walking!! When not on foot there are plenty of taxis, double decker buses and trams. Finally, it was monday and Beth was heading to Kiangan I got a text message form her in the middle of the night, our time. She had finally arrived in Manilla about 5pm and was heading to Kiangan. I guessed she arrived home at midnight or later It is a long ride thru the mountains to her home. Beth was about to be home at last. What will it be like to be finally home??!! (to be continued) |

| Beth finally arrived home in Kiangan and has since been all over the place. Beth has been visiting friends and family most of her time so far. She says everything is familair but yet somehow different. I have a bunch of photos beth was able to e-mail me. I will try to post them soon. She took a Jeepney for an overnight ride to Baugio and is visiting her cousin Jayson. I have been barely able to talk to beth. the international lines have been busy and she is often outside any coverage for a cell phone. We she finds an internet connection she is good about tell me how her travels are going. I asked if she had fresh balut yet.. "not yet" Beth has reported over and over again how hot it is there. It still felt like Winter when she left the South East. Beth is heading home soon for a long trip (2 days) home. The End...... |
