John's RC Flying Home

I have been flying RC gliders for around 4 years. These pages dedicated to tracking my trek through the air.

The Beginning

No link for this, just two pictures of the first glider.

Right after build - no tape!

After some flying - taped nose.

After flying the Highlander for several months I became comfortable landing near myself withuot crashing most of the time.

The Highlander, with all the crashes, had started to feel sloppy as well. So I decided to build the Dynaflite Skeeter. At some point I may build a skeeter page, but for now here are a couple of pictures.

The building time

By this time I had been flying more than a year and had done quite well with the skeeter. She flew so crisply compared to the Highlander and I specked out several times. She was a bit fragile, but I repaired her easily.

But it was time to move on. I discovered the CRRC Terminator page and decided to create a Terminator. After my fuse repairing experiences, however, I decided to mold a fiberglass fuselage based on the dimensions of the Terminator fuse plan. I used a pine wooden dowel to shape a plug and from that made a mold with a graphite arrow shaft sized boom.

I have pictures somewhere, but my oldest daughter took the scanner when she left for the Air Force. So the terminator will remain unseen. I broke the fuse numerous time and re-cast it three times. The wings I always managed to rescue. Then I built my first aileron wings with foam cutter and balsa covering. However, the wings weighed 11.2 ounces. With all of the folks flying sub 10 ounce planes I was getting discouraged with my 15-17 ounce plane building skills.

But I wanted a bigger plane too. So I cut cores for a 2m full house plane and purchased the fuselage from a person in Colorado for the 2m Texas Twister (I think.) I have a picture of this plane handy...

This 2 meter still flies (except for a stripped aileron servo gear.)

Money, Money, Moooneey - budget growing so now buying

The financial hard times started easing and I could buy a plane. The lure of DLG launching was powerful and I fed that beast by purchasing the Enigma.

Pics now, links later.

And last but not least, the BOT ARF. Only flown once and already needs repair. As before, links come later. Pics for now.
