The Joplin Globe covers the following counties; Jasper, Newton, Lawrence, Johnson, Barry, Dale and McDonald, northwest corner of Arkansas, northeast corner of Oklahoma, and the southeast corner of Kansas. You can post queries to this column. It would be wise to send your mailing address as well as an email address as people viewing the queries may not have internet access.

The Johnson County Court House, in the center of the town square, was built in 1889, the original courthouse having burned in 1860.
The Recorder of Deed’s office of Johnson County is experiencing a great amount of interest by persons searching for information about their ancestors. The following is a list of records available for public viewing and/or copying in the Johnson County Courthouse.
If you are planning on coming to the Courthouse, our office hours are 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., Monday-Friday, with most holidays taken. If you are traveling a distance to visit Johnson County, I suggest you call ahead to insure that we will be open.
Correspondence, by mail, should be directed to the specific office where the records are located. Always send a (SASE) self addressed stamped envelope when requesting information and copies. Make checks or money orders payable to that particular office when paying for copies.
When corresponding with the various offices in the Courthouse, please keep in mind that this service is only a small part of the responsibilities and tasks to be accomplished by the staff. We will respond to your requests, but sometimes not immediately.

A booklett concerning the beginnings of Liberal
Plain copies of Birth, Death, Marriage Records and Deeds cost $1.00 a sheet. Certified copies of Deeds cost $2.00. Certified copies of Marriage License cost $9.00 ea.
Court records are $0.10 a copy unless Certified. For Certified copies add an additional $2.00.
There is a cost of $2.00 for use of the Microfilm machine plus $0.50 per copy. To get the full census record usually requires two copies. All other copies are $0.10 per copy.
