Uncle Mark
Joe's pages would not be complete without a mention for his Uncle Mark my brother.
Mark John Pocock was born on 12th May 1969 and was three years my senior. We were never the doting brother and sister and would argue and fight at every opportunity. The only thing we ever really agreed on was that Mum's smacks did not hurt and and seeing her loose her temper was rather amusing.
When Mark was about twelve and me nine we moved house and changed schools. I made new friends very quickly but Mark seemed to struggle and began getting bullied. Things deteriorated for him over the next couple of years, he hated school and was always in a bad mood.
Things came to a head when he tried to commit suicide. I was quiet young  and did'nt really know what was going on, but I knew things were bad and it was an extremely distressing time for the whole family. There were more suicide attempts over the following couple of years but I know now that they were a cry for help rather than a real attempt at taking his own life.
Finally the time came for him to leave school and things started to look brighter. Mark got a job working for a chemical company alongside our Uncle who was a motorbike fanatic so at age sixteen he bought his first bike to use for commuting to work. Things were going well and our home life had settled down. Mark was a happy independent young man and I was doing quiet well at school and had a large group of really good friends.
On 28th October 1985 Mark was involved in an RTA which for him was fatal. It had happened on his way to work that morning and was nobody's fault. The police located my parents and broke the tragic news to them and my Dad told me later that day when I got home from school. My parents were devastated and it is only now that I can begin to understand what they went through and indeed what they still go through now.
I like to think that when Joe died, Mark was waiting at heavens gate to greet him and care for him until we are together again.
