A popular public house ("pub") in the hills several miles south of Dublin is Lamb Doyle's pub. It was founded by a man named Doyle, which was such a common name that he needed a nickname. Although he was a big man, he had a very gentle demeanor--as gentle as a lamb--and so was called Lamb Doyle. His pub was near the crossroads (which is known as Lamb's Cross or Lamb Doyle's Cross) where Blackglen Road intersects Sandyford Road, and it's still open for business today: www.lambdoyles.com.info
