Thanks for taking the time to visit my page and meet me!  I'm Smoky, meowmie calls me her baby.  I don't know why, I'm not a baby anymore!  I'm going to be three-and-a-half in September!  Maybe she calls me that because I'm her youngest kitty.  I don't know, but I love getting all of the attention!!
You can't tell from my pictures, but I was just a wee little thing when I first entered meowmie's life.  I was born outside, and was living in some bushes near a McDonald's drive-thru in Gastonia, North Carolina; one day I was sitting by the trash can begging for food when this really nice lady appeared in front of me and tried to get me to come closer.  I really wanted to, but I was scared because I never really spent time with humans before, so I stayed just out of reach.  Then she disappeared.  I was sad, and I looked around for her, but didn't see her; then all of a sudden she came back, and lo and behold, she had a WHOLE Chicken McNugget in her hand!  Food from the gods, especially to a hungry little guy like myself!
She must've known I wouldn't have been able to tackle that huge nugget, because she started breaking off little pieces and tossing them to me.  Mmmm, were they ever GOOD.  I didn't realize it at the time, but she would make me come a step or two closer with each piece she tossed, until without warning, she threw some sort of baby blanket over me and picked me up.  I was frightened and struggled for a little bit (I think I even bit her through the blanket), but she spoke softly to me and I relaxed.  She had such a nice voice!
She sat down in her car and let me poke my head out; there was a man, a little girl and a baby boy in the car with her, and they all seemed so nice!  I snuggled down inside the blanket, on her lap, and she drove us back to their house.  She brought me inside and carried me upstairs to the bathroom, where I stayed for a couple of weeks.  After about a week of being in there, one day she brought in a kitten about six months older than me who had just had surgery of some sort.  Kasidy and I became best friends very quickly!
Kas stayed in there with me for about a week, then one day the lady opened the bathroom door and let us roam freely.  To my surprise, there were two other cats living there too!  Tasha was about seven, and was okay with me; Abby was six and wasn't too pleased to see me, but didn't bother me much.  The lady took me to see the vet, who guessed that I was around eight weeks old at that point.  He wasn't sure, but he thought I might have some Maine Coon in me and I'd be a big boy.  He doesn't know it but he was RIGHT.
The lady's original plan was to find a good home for me after she "socialized" me, whatever that means; she already had four cats (I guess one lived with her mom at the time, in Illinois) and hadn't planned on getting a fifth.  Well, she asked everyone she knew but nobody wanted me; so one day she begged the man to let me stay and he agreed!  I've been with them ever since.  She had the vet fix me and remove my front claws so I wouldn't hurt the other cats, who were already front-declawed; and she gave me my name, which I think is pretty cool!
